Growing Together in Christ's Love
Greetings!
What a joyful start to the school year! Seeing the bright smiles, hearing the laughter, and feeling the excitement throughout our building has truly been a blessing. Our staff were thrilled to reconnect with returning students, hear about their summers, and warmly welcome all of our new students and families to the STMY community.
We are especially excited about this year’s faith theme: Growing Together in Christ’s Love, which reflects our shared journey of faith and learning. We grow in faith, in love, in community, and in the values that define who we are as a Catholic school. Through prayer, sacraments, service, and daily acts of kindness, we nurture the love of Christ within us and allow it to shine through everything we do. As we move forward in this new school year, we are excited to grow deeper in our relationships with one another and with God; in our classrooms, our hallways, and our hearts. Every member of our staff is eager to walk alongside your children as they learn, discover, and grow, both academically and spiritually. Our commitment remains strong: to create a safe, inclusive, and loving environment where all students feel seen, supported, and valued. We believe that when students are rooted in Christ’s love, their growth has no limits.
Student Registration & Class Updates
We’re off to a great start! Most class schedules are now finalized, though we are still working through a few timetable adjustments. Please note that course changes will only be made for academic reasons such as scheduling errors, prerequisites, or summer school completion.
Technology Reminder
With learning in full swing, it is essential that students bring their own devices (Chromebooks/laptops) to school daily. Many of our classroom activities and resources are hosted on Google Classroom and other digital platforms, so having a device is essential for participation.
Lock & Locker Reminder
Students are reminded to use their school-assigned locks on their lockers. If your child has misplaced their lock, a replacement can be purchased from the office, which will be charged to their PowerSchool account. Grade 7 students and other new students received their locks during registration.
We are truly looking forward to a year filled with learning, faith, friendship, and growth. Let’s continue to support one another as we grow together; in knowledge, in kindness, and above all, in Christ’s love.
With gratitude and excitement,
The STMY Administration Team

Demographic Forms
The “EICS Demographic Confirmation Form” for the 2024-2025 school year, is now available for you to complete and submit, for each of your children attending an Elk Island Catholic School. The form is found online in your PowerSchool Parent Portal and you may have received an email regarding updating this info.
This form is a mandatory document and is required to be updated for every student each year, as it could greatly impact you with respect to the Canada Revenue Agency information and Immigration when they request validation of your information.
Alberta Education requires that we obtain a detailed update of student demographics on an annual basis. Funding they provide for your child's education is conditional to us receiving these updates and making them part of the student's record. We would appreciate you completing and submitting this form, for each of your children, as soon as possible.
Please contact our school at 780-632-3934, if you have any questions or require assistance.
Also please let us know if there are any significant allergies that we need to be aware of in the school, especially for those students who are new to the building.
*PLEASE CHECK YOU BALANCE ON POWER SCHOOL ACCOUNTS,
AND MAKE SURE ALL FEES FROM LAST YEAR ARE PAID*
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Cell Phone/Personal Communication Devices Policy
- As per the Alberta Government’s Ministerial order:
STMY is a one-to-one school as supported by Elk Island Catholic School Division (EICS), however it is important to note that Personal Communication Devices (also known as mobile phones, smartwatches, iPods, tablets, airpods, etc) are not a substitute for one-to-one technology.
It is recommended that students in grades 7-12 at STMY not bring personal communication devices to school. If a student feels they need to bring their device to school it should be locked up in their lockers at all times and only come out when requested by the teacher for educational purposes or during spares, 5 minute breaks or lunch. Phones, Air Pods, and Smart Watches are NOT allowed during Instructional Time, in bathrooms or change rooms. Phones are also NOT permitted during class transition times between periods 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8.
If students do not follow these rules, a teacher will remove the device from the student’s possession for the duration of the day, and send it to the office to be picked up at the end of the day. Should the situation escalate or become a chronic problem, the parent will be notified and may be required to come and pick up the device.

Welcome Back!
The halls were filled with joyous faces and laughter as we welcomed student back to school this week!💙💛
Congratulations Cameron Dixson - 4th in Canada!
We would like to extend a huge congratulations to our Saints alumni Cameron Dixson on an incredible performance throwing discus at Nationals in Ottawa!
Cameron finished 4th in the country with a personal best throw of 48.00m! He was just 3cm shy of the bronze medal - an amazing effort that shows he's right up there with the best in Canada.
Cameron, we are so proud of your hard work and progress! The future is bright!
Thank You Kate Albrecht!
A heartfelt thank you to Kate Albrecht for her generous donation of $500 to our Breakfast Club this summer. Kate's contribution came from the proceeds of her participation in The OH Beef Branded Youth Ambassador Program, where she was 1 of just 12 youth selected across the province to raise and sell a steer at the Calgary Stampede.
We are incredibly proud of Kate’s accomplishments, her outstanding work ethic, and her kind heart. Congratulations, Kate! May God continue to bless you in all that you do.
