Read Across America Week is this week!
What is Read Across America?
Read Across America Week is an annual celebration of reading that encourages children and communities across the country to develop a lifelong love of books. It takes place during the first week of March, surrounding March 2nd, which is the birthday of Dr. Seuss, one of the most beloved children's authors.
Created by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998, this week-long event promotes literacy and emphasizes the importance of reading through fun activities, themed dress-up days, guest readers, and special events in schools and libraries. While it originally focused on Dr. Seuss books, the celebration has expanded to highlight diverse authors, stories, and genres that reflect all readers.
The goal of Read Across America Week is to inspire children to explore new books, foster a positive reading culture, and engage families and communities in supporting literacy. Schools often organize read-aloud sessions, book fairs, reading challenges, and creative activities to make reading exciting and interactive.
It’s a time to celebrate the joy of reading and remind students that books open doors to adventure, knowledge, and imagination!
March Character Trait- Integrity
In the month of March, our school's character trait is integrity. We believe that fostering integrity in our students is crucial for their personal growth and their ability to contribute positively to our community.
Integrity means:
- Being honest and truthful in words and actions.
- Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
- Having strong moral principles and sticking to them.
- Being reliable and trustworthy.
We encourage you to reinforce these values at home by:
- Modeling integrity with your student.
- Acknowledging and praising your children when they demonstrate integrity.
- Discussing real-life examples of integrity in the news or in stories.
By working together, we can help our children develop into individuals of strong character who make ethical decisions and contribute to a more trustworthy and respectful world.
We appreciate your partnership in this important endeavor.

Keep the Learning Blooming! Reading During Spring Break
Spring break is a wonderful time for relaxation and fun, but it's also a fantastic opportunity to keep our students' minds active and engaged. We want to encourage everyone to continue the important habit of reading during the break.
Why is reading during Spring Break so important?
- Prevents the "Spring Slide": Just like the "summer slide," a break from reading can lead to a dip in reading skills. Keeping those skills sharp ensures a smoother transition back to the classroom.
- Expands Vocabulary and Knowledge: Reading exposes children to new words, ideas, and perspectives, broadening their understanding of the world.
- Sparks Imagination and Creativity: A good book can transport children to new worlds and ignite their imaginations.
- Provides Relaxation and Enjoyment: Reading can be a calming and enjoyable activity, perfect for winding down after a day of fun.
- Creates opportunities for family bonding: Reading together can be a wonderful way to connect and share stories.
Here are a few ways to encourage reading during Spring Break:
- Visit the Library: Stock up on books before the break. Many libraries also offer online resources and e-books.
- Make it Fun: Let your child choose books that interest them. Comic books, magazines, and audiobooks are all great options.
- Set a Reading Goal: Encourage your child to read for a certain amount of time each day or to finish a specific book.
- Read Together: Read aloud to your child or take turns reading pages.
- Create a Cozy Reading Nook: Make a comfortable space where your child can relax and enjoy a book.
- Lead by Example: Let your children see you reading!
Remember, even a little bit of reading each day can make a big difference. Let's work together to keep the learning blooming during Spring Break!
Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable break.
