KILLAM PUBLIC SCHOOL
June 18, 2026
Treaty Acknowledgement
We acknowledge that Killam Public School is on Treaty 6 territory - the ancestral and traditional land of many Indigenous groups. We are grateful for the animals, the water and the forests that provide us with many resources we use each day. We are thankful for the diverse opportunities that this land offers. We respect the land in which we gather on today.
Grade 5 (23-24)
Principal's Message
With just days left in our school year, June has been a whirlwind of activities, field trips and wrapping up our learning! To celebrate the end of a great year, we invite all of our families to join us in the gym for our Airband Showcase from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on the last day of school, Wednesday, June 24.
Right now, our Grade 6 and 9 students are working hard on their Provincial Achievement Tests, final projects are flying in, and the remainder of our Junior High exams kick off this Friday.
On June 23, at 7 pm, we will hold our Junior High Awards Ceremony in the gym. Please join us as we recognize our students' accomplishments and officially say "Farewell" to our Grade 9 students as they prepare to move into high school!
As many of you are aware, Battle River School Division faced funding cuts this year. At KPS, our priority is always to protect classroom learning. Fortunately, we have been able to strategically offset these cuts using the temporary Complexity Support Funding provided by the Alberta Government.
Note: This specific provincial funding was allocated in March to cover the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years, and will not continue past June 2027. We are maximizing these resources now to set our students up for success.
To ensure our students receive strong foundational support, we have prioritized keeping our core subject classes as small as possible. To achieve this, some of our non-core classes (such as Fine Arts, PE, and Options) will feature combined grade levels.

Thanks to the K-6 Complexity Support Funding, we aren't just maintaining our support staff—we've actually been able to add two extra full-time Educational Assistant (EA) positions in addition to our BRSD funding.
We are incredibly fortunate to welcome back all of our familiar, amazing EAs next year, along with one new addition to the team! Welcome to Miss. A. Thompson who joins Mrs. Armitage, Mrs. Hogman, Mrs. Eide-Johnson, Mrs. Irving, and Mrs. Walline.
We are deeply grateful for this extra funding, which allows us to navigate broader division cuts smoothly and keep our focus exactly where it belongs: on your children's growth and education. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Mrs. Brodie will continue to be a helpful resource in our office and Mrs. Cox will be in our Learning Commons on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
