Hello Students and Families!

We've had a great start to the school year and I am so proud of how hard many of our students are working to earn their credits. Attendance is the leading factor in students success so please continue to encourage your child to come every day. To find out how your child is doing, come to conferences on Thursday, October 9, between 3:30 and 6:00. We still have about 4 weeks until the end of the quarter so students have time to get caught up and make sure they are passing all their classes. We will be serving a light meal from Homi Restaurant. See you then!

Students and staff will be receiving new iPads for schoolwork this fall. Students are expected to bring in iPads checked out to them in previous years, so make sure that you bring your iPad to school so that it can be exchanged for the newest model.

Award Winner, Teacher Jamie Hogg

Our very own James Hagg was recognized at the Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 23 for being the recipient of the Blue Heron Educators Award from Outward Bound. James has been working with Outward Bound for about 10 years. Through this organization, students have had the opportunity to go rock climbing, skiing, canoeing, do team building activities, etc. This award is Outward Bounds way of honoring the extraordinary individuals shaping the future of education. Whether in classrooms, school communities, or youth-serving organizations, these change-makers reflect the very best of what it means to lead with agility, integrity, compassion, and perseverance—and to inspire those same traits in the students they serve. Way to go, Mr. Hagg!

In simple terms, a Title I school is a school that receives extra funding from the federal government to help students. The main goal of this funding is to ensure all children have a fair and equal opportunity to get a high-quality education. On October 9, from 3:30-6 join the Title 1 meeting to learn more about Title 1 and to give your input to our school community.

As a Title I school, we receive federal funding to provide all our students with academic support, and a key part of our success is our partnership with you. To guide our teamwork, we have a Family Engagement Plan, which is simply our promise for how we will work together to help your student grow and move towards graduation. Our engagement outlines how we'll communicate with you, share responsibility for your student's success, and provide helpful workshops and events to support learning at home. Ultimately, we know that when our school and our families are on the same team, our students succeed. Find our Family Engagement Plan on the Gordon Parks High School website.

Each Saint Paul school has a School Comprehensive Improvement Plan (SCIP) that is driven by data, and helps us judge where we are as a school, how we can better assist our students, and how we can grow as a school community. You can view our current school improvement plan on the Gordon Parks High School website.

Mark your calendar. We will host a SCIP review meeting on December 11, from 3:30 to 6, at Gordon Parks High School. We would like you to attend and help shape our improvement plan.

Does your student need elective credits? They can sign-up to earn credits for having a part-time job. They should check in with Mr. Iwen, the work experience coordinator located in the counseling office for more information.
