Dear Falcon Families.
December is an extremely busy month for us, here at PS199. The PTA is starting the month with their Holiday Boutique Sale. If you are available to volunteer to assist the children with their shopping for a few hours, contact the PTA or email me and I will get your contact information to the PTA.
Monday, December 4th, the we hosted a Kindergarten Open House and Tour for interested incoming families. We had a few parents come in for the tour, but I expect more when we do it again on the 5th of January.
Please join us for the NYC Reads event this Wednesday on the 6th of December. This is an opportunity to eat some good food and hear some wonderful books read with your families. One of my favorite books from my childhood is "Free to be You and Me" by Marlo Thomas and Company. It is a collection of short stories was accompanied by an album that included music. I still remember most of the stories and definitely the songs.
For anyone who received a ticket for the upcoming Christmas Party at the Astoria World Manor for the 9th of December. The event will begin at 11:00 am and only the children require at ticket
During this holiday season, remember to make time to enjoy your family..

All Kindergarten Families and new NYC Public School System Grade 1 & 2 Families
Dear Parents/Guardians:
In school year 2023-2024, every kindergarten, first grade, and second grade student enrolled in NYC public schools is eligible to participate, no matter their family income or immigration status.
The NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program provides families, schools, and communities with a way to work together to save for their children’s futures. It’s a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible and achievable for all NYC public school students, starting in kindergarten.
By providing upfront scholarships for every eligible student, tools and information for families to develop their own college and career savings plans, and a way for entire communities to invest in their children, the Save for College Program enables all of us to work together to build assets and support expectations of educational and economic success for every child.
Good news! If your child is eligible, they will be automatically enrolled in the Save for College Program unless you choose not to participate and opt out. As long as you take NO ACTION during the Opt-out Process, your child will be automatically enrolled and receive a free NYC Scholarship Account. If you do not wish to participate, please visit the NYC Department of Education website for more instructions on how to opt out.Families have 30 days to opt out if thet dont want to be included in the program and have their student's data shared with NYC Kids RISE.

Device Update
One of the most asked questions we receive is regarding devices. When the pandemic hit, schools distributed all of their school owned devices to students. This purged almost all of our technology, as the remote learning period did stretch until June 2021 (from March 2020). During this time, Central DOE did distribute devices as well to families who requested. Many families received a DOE device during that time.
Central is not purchasing any more devices for distribution, but what they are doing is getting turned in devices back in to circulation. What does this mean? When a student leaves the public school system (graduates, moves out of state, or to a non-public school) they must return the device. Students keep their central owned device for the duration of their enrollment in the NYC Public Schools. In short, they take the device they may have received at PS 199q, and got to middle school and high school with that device. Students can only receive one device, so if you received a device, and it is still in your possession, you cannot receive another. If it is broken, please return it to PS 199q, so we can account for it.
As for accessing learning platforms, everything can be accessed through TeachHub, with your child's email and password. You can access through any laptop, any tablet, any phone. The below survey asks only four questions. Please complete so we have a clear picture of who can access Google Classroom, and who has access to technology.

Resetting Password
Resetting your child's Google password tutorial
Resetting your child’s Google Classroom Email Password.
- Go to the Department of Education website: schools.nyc.gov
- Scroll down to the Technology for Families section and click onto STUDENT tab.
- Click onto the menu option: Resetting your child’s password and then under that will be the instructions to create a pin for the account. You will need your child’s osis number and you can get that from your child’s teacher or even the main office. Ms. Becco can give it to you also, just email her at sbecco@schools.nyc.gov.
- After changing the password and creating a pin, go back to the homepage and click "teachhub" on the top right side of the toolbar. You may or may not have to sign on again.
- A remember that the username is everything before the @ symbol in the email address and the password is case sensitive.
- Once you get into the teachhub, you may not see much, and if that is the case, you should then click on the heading that includes your child’s grade, next to the Welcome.
- You will then see a host of apps that your child may need access to, for example: Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet, Gmail, etc.
