York High School Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and are having a great first week of December. Thank you to all of our students and staff for doing a great job on our first remote learning day of the season (we will appreciate that day in June!). We are working on adjusting the bell schedule for remote learning days to remove the Pride block (one less transition for students). This information will be shared when we have another remote learning day.
Before the break, we had our World Languages Honor Society inductions. We honored 34 students in German, French, and Spanish, as well as our two international exchange students. Congratulations to all of our inductees for earning this achievement and joining their respective World Language Honor Societies.
Our Speech and Debate team hosted a tournament at YHS before Thanksgiving. They welcomed 11 high schools across the state and competed in mock congress, two types of debate, and a variety of speech events. Coach Banks and Kyer said all of the students did an amazing job competing. Congratulations, Alyssa, Beatle, Penelope, Addie, and Violet!
Yesterday, we had another school-wide assembly supporting our goal of increasing engagement and promoting a positive culture. We welcomed YHS Alum, Pari Kim ('20), to share her story and her keys to achieving your dreams -- perseverance, confidence, hard work, and optimism. Students told Ms. Masterson that this was the best assembly we have ever had.
Good luck to our Drama Club students as they perform "A Christmas Carol" this weekend. Opening Night is tomorrow at 7:00 in the York Community Auditorium. Break a leg!
Enjoy the rest of your week, and if you have any questions or need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Thanks,
Amanda

If you have any questions about the events listed below, please reach out to your student's school counselor for more information.
College Rep Visits
College rep visits are starting up, and they'll be held in person or virtually this year. These visits are a great chance to talk with college representatives about their campuses and what they offer. Sometimes, the reps you meet with are the same admission counselors who will be reviewing your application!
There are many colleges and universities visiting, so be sure to check out all the available slots in Naviance. For virtual visits, it's important to be in a quiet space so you can have a clear conversation.
Juniors and seniors can sign up and reserve their spot through Naviance by clicking on the "What's new" window on your Naviance home page. If you need a quiet place to participate, please let Student Services know ahead of time. If you have any questions, please reach out to us in Student Services.
