A message from the principal A message from the principal

We are off to a great start of the new school year! Students are already becoming re-acclimated to the structures and routines of school, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones as well. Our teachers are working hard to guide, model and practice those important routines. We are so thrilled to have our students back in the building with us!

As you can see from the upcoming events above, family-teacher conferences will be here soon. This is a great time to speak with your child's teacher to learn more about how your child is doing in class, so far, and what s/he will be learning throughout the year. Please sign up here for a time to meet with your child's teacher.

I also wanted to provide a few reminders about transportation and school procedures in order to improve upon our morning and afternoon processes.

  • Parents are not allowed to walk their student(s) to their classrooms. Please understand this is for the safety of all of our students and staff. Visitors to the building must enter Door 44 and check in with the office.
  • For safety reasons, we appreciate your support in using the pick-up/drop-off loop rather than parking and walking up to the building. This helps to eliminate congestion both in the lot and on the front sidewalk. Please note: Pre-K families have a different pick-up/drop-off procedure than our K-5 students
  • If you are dropping off or picking up, please remember to stay in your vehicle and follow the loop of cars. Staff will assist your student out of the vehicle, if needed.
  • If all of your CBPA students are in third grade or above, you can utilize the Jackson loop to pick up and drop off.
  • For safety reasons, there is NO vehicle drop-off or pick-up in the back of the building. Staff are located outside of Door 33 to supervise and assist walkers. We do not have staff in or around the parking lot, so students should be sure to utilize the sidewalks to approach the building.

Thank you for your support of our school community!

Intervention updates Intervention updates

As we work continuously to provide the best learning experience for every student, a strategy we are using to support your child’s learning in reading this year is shared intervention time.

What is shared intervention time?

To maximize our instructional resources and provide targeted, skills-based literacy support, we structure specific times during the school day where students may be grouped by learning goals across grade levels—specifically within Kindergarten–Grade 1 and Grades 2–3.

During these focused sessions, your child may work with their primary classroom teacher, another teacher in the same or adjacent grade level, or one of our specialized support staff. For example, a second-grade student might receive literacy instruction from a third-grade teacher, a second-grade teacher, or an intervention specialist who has expertise in the exact skill your child is working on. While shared intervention within a grade-level has been common practice in many grade levels for several years, we are now expanding the opportunity for skills-based instruction to allow for more flexibility to meet student needs.

Key things to keep in mind:

  • Focus on skills, not grade labels: Groupings are flexible and are organized around specific reading skills (such as phonics, fluency or vocabulary). Please do not gauge your child’s skill level based on the teacher they are meeting with. Being placed with a different teacher simply means that staff member is leading the group focused on the exact skill your child is practicing at that time.

  • Progress updates and communication: Your child’s home classroom teacher remains your primary contact. They monitor your child’s overall progress toward grade-level benchmarks and intervention goals, and they will continue to communicate with you.

This collaborative approach allows us to make full use of our staff's expertise and meet every student where they are. If you have any questions about our shared intervention time, please feel free to reach out to me or your child's classroom teacher. Thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education.
