LHM Hospitality Career Exploration Experience
The Chelsea Detrick Experiential Learning Center works to match students with experiences aligned with careers they want to explore, passion areas of interest, and service learning opportunities. Those authentic experiences, paired with our guidance designed to spur deep reflection, make critical differences for high school students wondering how to forge paths to adulthood. We want students to try this, try that, and try it all!
Our valued community partners are dedicated to the growth and development of Webster Groves High School students. We couldn’t do this work without them! We are especially grateful to the O’Loughlin family and their company Lodging Hospitality Management (LHM). Established in 1986, LHM is an independently owned and operated lodging and hospitality management company with a portfolio of 18 hotel properties, 14 restaurants, 7 attractions, and 2 commercial properties.
Recently we partnered with Lodging Hospitality Management (LHM) in a two-phase experience wherein students could attend an on-campus session to hear from LHM executives about the company’s position within the industry landscape, and also network & explore within the fields of business, marketing, hospitality, or management. Two weeks later, LHM welcomed Chelsea Center students to their offices and sites at Union Station. Students were treated to lunch at their St. Louis Union Station Soda Fountain restaurant where they learned about the food and beverage hospitality logistics. They were also given the opportunity to see the daily operations of the many corporate divisions within lodging and entertainment site management, from accounting to marketing to midwestern oceanography considerations at the Aquarium. We are grateful to the O’Loughlin family and their company Lodging Hospitality Management (LHM) for graciously providing this opportunity to our students.
Thank you to ALL our community partners and the opportunities they provide for WGHS students!
Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
