Important Updates - October 30th
Veterans Day Assembly Wed, Nov. 11th
At Davis, we love to foster an appreciation of our Veterans! There are 2 ways that families can support this:
1) Do you know a Veteran who could attend the Davis Veterans Day Celebration on Wednesday, November 11th at 2:00?
- Please enter the Veteran's info HERE so that we may invite the Veterans to our Celebration.
- We will send the Veteran an invitation to the Celebration.
- Veterans may arrive at Davis at 1:45 pm to enjoy a school assembly and a small reception afterwards with their families.
- We need your help! We would love to invite as many Veterans as we can. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, November 6th.
2) Your child has been given a small Veteran Poster that he/she can complete if you have a family member or loved one who is a Veteran (or currently serving).
- You may attach a photo or have your child draw a picture of the Veteran.
- You may make additional copies of the paper if you wish to honor more than one Veteran.
- When your child returns the paper to school, we will decorate our hallways with these heroes!
Picture Re-takes - Friday, Nov. 6th
If your child did not have his/her picture taken in September, please prepare for him/her to be photographed on November 6th.
If you ordered pictures in September but are not satisfied with them, your child may return the photos you received (including the envelope; be sure to return digital packages and envelopes also) and have a new picture taken.
If you have not already placed an order, you may order pictures online at https://inter-state.com/order using Davis Order Code: 0496ZXF . To see your Order History, check your Inter-State Account.
Find answers to Retake Day questions here.
***Please send an email to your child's teacher alerting him/her that your child wants a retake.
Trunk or Treat - Thanks PTO!!
What a fantastic Trunk or Treat event last Friday! Thank you to our incredible PTO for organizing such a memorable evening for our Davis community. The trunks were so creative, and our students had a blast playing games at each one! The raffle featuring teacher experiences and games was a highlight, as well as the Spirit Wear table and visiting with Stanley.
It was absolutely wonderful seeing our Davis families and students in their creative costumes and watching our community come together for such a fun evening. Events like these remind us what makes Davis so special! Thank you, PTO, for all your hard work and dedication to making our school an amazing place to be!
The Davis Kindness Club Spreads Halloween Cheer at The Pearl
Our Davis Kindness Club is off to a wonderful start! Earlier in October, Kindness Club students met to write and draw Happy Halloween messages. On Wednesday, the club visited The Pearl of St. Charles for a Halloween parade and delivered their cards to the residents. Residents and staff were very touched by the happy smiles and fun costumes. It was a great way to kick off Kindness Club this year. Thank you to our students for sharing their kindness with our neighbors!
Dear Third and Fifth Grade Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you that your child will be participating in Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) testing during the following dates:
Testing Dates: Monday, November 9th through Friday, November 12th
Make-up Testing: The week of November 16th
About the Test
The CogAT is a digital test that consists of three sections measuring different reasoning abilities:
Verbal reasoning
Quantitative reasoning
Nonverbal reasoning
The test is composed of nine 10-minute sections for a total of 90 minutes of testing time. These sections will be administered in a manner that is comfortable and appropriate for your child.
Purpose of the CogAT
The Cognitive Abilities Test measures reasoning abilities that facilitate learning and problem-solving. The information gathered from CogAT scores may be used to:
Adapt instruction and programs to meet the individual needs and abilities of students
Provide insight into a student's readiness for advanced academic programming, such as the Academically Talented program
If you have any questions about the CogAT testing, please don't hesitate to contact the school office. Please click HERE for a letter from the District Department of Assessment & Accountability.
Thank you for your continued support of your child's education.
Sincerely,
Principal Gina Shaw

News from the Nurses
Info on OTC Medicines, Cough Drops, and PE/Recess Restrictions
Some students are starting to bring in some “over the counter medications” for symptom relief. Please do not allow or encourage them to do that. Students are not allowed to bring cough drops, gum or peppermint candies to school. A Physician order is needed for all over the counter types of medications. The Medication Administration form can be obtained on the district website under the Parent Tab - Nurse/Health Services. Physicians must complete and sign the top portion and parents need to sign the bottom portion before any over the counter meds are given. You should not be sending any medications to school with the children in their backpacks. Please drop off the medication along with the completed form to the Nurse.
We have been seeing an increase in after school/weekend sport related injuries this year. If your child has been injured and/or cannot participate in PE/Recess, please call the Health Office to inform the Nurse of the situation. A physician note with all restrictions is required for the child’s safety. We will do our best to meet our students' needs but need to have the appropriate information to do so. A release will need to be obtained before the child can return without restrictions. We will always encourage students to go outside with their class for “fresh air”.
Thank you for your cooperation with both these very important issues.
