TESTING TESTING

Dear Families,

AZELLA testing has already begun for our 4th and 5th grade classes. We ask that you encourage your child to do their very best and take their time on each part of the assessment. Testing will continue with 2nd and 3rd grade students during the week of February 2–6, and conclude with Kindergarten and 1st grade classes from February 9–20.

In addition, students will be taking the Galileo Readiness Assessment, which is administered each quarter. This quarter, Galileo testing will take place in students’ classrooms beginning February 2 and concluding by February 20. Students will complete assessments in ELA, Math, Science, and Writing. These results help teachers identify strengths and determine which standards to focus on or reteach during the final quarter as students prepare for the next grade level.

We greatly appreciate your support in helping students feel prepared and confident. Please help your child by ensuring they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, arrive at school on time, and are encouraged to stay positive and focused during testing.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our Hawks and their success!

Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

Dear AJ Mitchell Families,

February is an exciting and important time for learning at our school! Our Hawks are continuing to show growth, perseverance, and determination as they take on new challenges and work toward their goals. We are so proud of the effort our students put into their learning each day.

One key factor in student success is daily attendance. When students are at school every day and on time, they don’t miss valuable instruction, classroom discussions, or opportunities to grow academically and socially. Every day truly counts, and we appreciate your partnership in helping our Hawks be present and ready to learn.

This month, we continue to encourage a positive growth mindset—reminding students that learning takes time, effort, and practice. Mistakes are part of the process, and trying your best is what matters most. With encouragement, persistence, and support from home and school, our students are building confidence and resilience.

We believe in our Hawks and know they will continue to succeed. Thank you for your ongoing support, commitment to attendance, and for being an essential part of our school community.

Together, we are helping every student soar.

Thank you for being such an important part of our school community.

Warmly,

Christina Dang

February is a month full of learning, growth, and opportunities for our students to shine! As we move through testing season and continue building strong habits, we want to share a few ways we can work together to support our students’ success—academically, socially, and emotionally.

🌱 Growth Mindset Matters
We encourage students to practice a growth mindset, which means believing that abilities grow with effort, practice, and perseverance. Mistakes are part of learning, and challenges help our brains get stronger. At school, we remind students to say things like, “I can’t do this yet, but I’m learning.” Families can support this by praising effort, not just results, and encouraging students to keep trying even when something feels hard.

📝 Testing Tips for Success
During testing, students are reminded to:

  • Get a good night’s sleep

  • Eat a healthy breakfast

  • Take their time and do their best

  • Stay calm and confident

At home, you can help by offering encouragement, keeping morning routines calm, and reminding your child that tests are just one way to show what they know.

⭐ Positive Behavior Builds Success
Positive behavior choices—such as being respectful, responsible, and kind—help create a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone. Recognizing and celebrating positive behavior at home, setting clear expectations, and modeling kindness go a long way in helping students succeed at school.

🏡 How Families Can Support at Home

  • Encourage daily attendance and punctuality—being at school every day truly makes a difference

  • Set aside time to talk about your child’s day and feelings

  • Read together or talk about what they are learning

  • Practice problem-solving and calming strategies when challenges arise

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. When school and home work together, our Hawks soar! If you ever have questions or need additional resources, please don’t hesitate to reach
