What Will the District 300 Bond Referendum Look Like on Your Ballot?
This Tuesday, November 3, District 300 voters will decide whether to approve a bond referendum to help fund improvements to schools and facilities across the district.
How Can You Identify the Referendum on Your Ballot?
District 300 wants to ensure voters are able to easily identify the bond referendum question on their ballot. Here is the question, word for word:
“Shall the Board of Education of Community Unit School District Number 300, Kane, McHenry, Cook and DeKalb Counties, Illinois, build and equip additions to and alter, repair and equip school buildings and facilities, including, but not limited to, secured entryways, safety and security improvements and additional classrooms; build and equip a Career and Technical Education Center; acquire land; improve sites; and issue its bonds to the amount of $355,500,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?”
Simply stated, the referendum asks whether District 300 may issue bonds, that is, borrow money, to fund proposed school building and facility improvements. Voters can select either “Yes” or “No.”
Voters, not the Board of Education or the district, will make the final decision.
For the referendum to pass, more than half of the votes cast on this question must be "Yes" votes.
