It's Time!

The excitement has been mounting and the big day is finally here. School begins tomorrow.

Breakfast starts at 8:30. Students eating breakfast should arrive at 8:30 so that they can eat inside the cafeteria before school starts at 8:45.

The first bell will ring at 8:45 and students begin to enter the building.

The final bell rings at 8:50 and this is when instruction begins.

Students arriving after 8:50 should report to the front office upon arrival.

Pro Tips: to help to ensure your family a smooth transition for the start of the school year

Prepare ahead set out your child's clothing, shoes, backpacks, and lunch the night before. Please check to make sure that toys, electronics and fidgets are left at home. Students don't need them at school.

Leave early plan to leave 30 minutes earlier than you think you need to, traffic will be hectic. Remember you may only turn right on Wells Street into the parking lot, so if you need to circle the block to enter you won't feel stressed since you left on time. You'll also have time to take photos and chat with other families before the bell rings. This sense of calm will support you and your student.

Say Goodbyes say your big emotional goodbyes at home, students enter the building alone and will need you to be brave to see them off.

Exit Curbside students may only exit curbside at Burns Park. If your drop off routine includes car seats that can only be curbside as well and your Burns Park student can't exit curbside, please plan to park on an adjacent street to Wells and walk over so that your child is able to safely exit your car. Please note: The staff parking lot is not for parent vehicles. Thank you!

Each classroom teachers name has been painted on the blacktop near the upper and lower playgrounds. As you arrive please stand single file near your student's teacher's name. Supervising adults will welcome each class into the building. Parents should remain on the blacktop as students walk inside.

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Coffee

Once you have completed the morning drop off for your student please join the PTO near the flag pole for coffee.

Caleb Medacco, ASD Student Teacher

Hi! My name is Caleb Medacco and for the past 3 years I have been teaching Algebra 2 and Geometry at Slauson Middle School. My wife, Chelsea, and I have a daughter (6) that is starting kindergarten this year and a son (4) who is currently in ABA therapy. My son was diagnosed with Autism 2.5 years ago, so when the district presented the opportunity to join their Grown Your Own program to obtain a Master's Degree in Special Education with a focus in ASD I jumped at the opportunity. That program has brought me to Burns Park where I am excited to be a part of the ASD room!

Burns Park Family Handbook

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with the procedures and protocols of Burns Park Elementary.

We are committed to meeting the needs of all students and families and creating a school community where everyone feels safe, supported, respected, and valued. To help us do that, we have established procedures and protocols designed to support the safety, well-being, and success of our entire community.

We ask that you take a moment to review these expectations carefully. Understanding our procedures helps ensure that we can respond consistently, communicate effectively, and provide the support our students and families need.

Thank you for taking the time to become familiar with our Burns Park practices and for partnering with us to maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive school community.

Please take a look and reach out to the office if you have questions about any of the procedures or protocols.

Family Needs Survey

*Please Note: I am asking all families that may have experienced a minor or major setback to please fill out the Family Needs Survey above. This survey helps ME know what additional support your family may need to fully participate in community wide events. Your presence is important to us all and this Penguin community wants to makes sure you're always included. *Please note that identifying information remains confidential and is not shared.

EBF Form

Please Note: AAPS is asking all families to fill out the above form. Allocation of resources for students and classrooms are based on the results of this form. The goal is to have 100% of Burns Park families complete this form by Oct.1 so that it can be represented in our count day funding.
