This time of year can feel like a whirlwind of busy little ghosts—and we really are busy! Even our shortened week for students was packed with Parent/Teacher conferences and preparations for the Fall Carnival.

The Fall Carnival is a wonderful example of the community-wide events that bring McNeil together. There are plenty of ways to lend a helping hand as a volunteer, and the funds raised through the activities help support so many of the wonderful things teachers plan for their classes throughout the school year. The Carnival is one of two big annual events that make a tremendous difference in fundraising for our school community. Your involvement is key to their success—we couldn’t make them happen without you!

The success of McNeil Canyon Elementary is closely tied to the involvement of our parents and community members. Please stay connected with the events and happenings shared throughout the year in the Dragon Tales and Magpie newsletters. Thank you for helping make McNeil such a wonderful place to learn and grow. We’re grateful to have you in our school community—no tricks, just treats!

Dear Families,

McNeil Canyon Title I is excited to welcome back Bill Noomah as a Title I Tutor! Bill is a beloved former McNeil teacher with a wealth of experience and expertise in reading, writing, and math. We are thrilled that he has stepped out of retirement to rejoin our team this school year!

As we move into our second quarter, Title I looks forward to continuing to support our students’ growth and progress. Looking ahead to the next couple of months, we will be hosting our First Semester Title I Committee Meeting during our next Site Council meeting. We will also be sharing more information soon about our First Semester Family Engagement Activity, so keep an eye out for updates!

On Saturday night, Oct. 31st, remember to set your CLOCK BACK ONE HOUR before you go to bed. Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1st at 2:00am.

Parents are invited to join their child and the principal for lunch on Monday, November 23rd at 11:55 am.

Spotlight Student forms were sent home on Wednesday with these students. Please return them as soon as possible so they can be placed on our Spotlight Student bulletin board. Thank you!!

Anne Love is our returning after-school cross country ski coach and she is looking for a helper who is experienced with sizing to help size kids next month in preparation for beginning the ski program.

We are hoping to start our Skiing program on Mondays after Winter Break. We also need parent helpers every Monday once the ski program starts. How many helpers we have will determine how many skiers we can have. You must be a KPBSD approved volunteer to help. Please contact Anne at alove@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or call the school office.
