Supporting Student Success: Resources and Opportunities
We are midway through the third quarter, and there are many opportunities available to support your student's success. At Proviso West High School, we are committed to helping every student achieve their academic and personal goals. Be sure to check out the information below on after-school tutoring and Saturday school. Additionally, you'll find valuable tips on PowerSchool, attendance, and other important resources to help your student thrive. If you need assistance, please reach out using the contact information listed under resources in this newsletter.
Get Connected with PowerSchool
We encourage all parents and guardians to sign up for PowerSchool if you haven’t already. This user-friendly platform provides real-time updates on your student’s grades, attendance, and important school information. Staying informed is one of the best ways to support your student’s success.
Contact the Parent Coordinator if you need assistance with PowerSchool.

If your student will be absent, please contact the attendance office within 24 hours. When calling, clearly provide:
- Student’s full name and ID number
- Date of the absence
- Reason for the absence
- Parent/guardian name and relationship to the student
- A daytime phone number where we can reach you
Calls from parents or legal guardians are required, and while you may need to leave a voicemail, our attendance office staff will review and respond as needed. For detailed attendance policies, refer to Section 5 of the Proviso Township High Schools District 209 Handbook. (See Link for handbook at bottom of Newsletter)
Students Must have their IDs Daily
All students are required to wear their school IDs when entering the building and keep them visible at all times during the school day. IDs are essential for accessing the cafeteria, obtaining passes, and helping to ensure a secure school environment.
Encourage Your Student to Get Involved
Extracurricular activities are a vital part of the high school experience. Getting involved also helps students feel more connected to their school community, which can have a positive impact on their academic and personal growth.
Parent Engagement Opportunities
At Proviso West, we value our partnership with parents and guardians. Be on the lookout for upcoming parent workshops, events, and opportunities to connect with other families. These events will be advertised in our newsletters and other school communications, so stay tuned!
Partnering for Student Success
At Proviso West High School, our staff and administration are dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment for all students. We are committed to collaborating with you to help students reach their goals and realize their full potential. By working together, we can ensure a successful school year. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Let’s make this year one to remember!
Warmly,
The Proviso West Team
School Counselors
February 3rd -7th, we proudly recognize National School Counseling Week and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our school counselors. These dedicated professionals play a crucial role in helping students navigate their high school journeys, offering guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way.
School counselors do more than assist with class schedules—they help students set goals, explore career and college opportunities, and develop the skills needed for success beyond high school. Through mentorship and positive relationships, they provide a safe space for students to express their concerns, overcome challenges, and reset when life takes an unexpected turn.
Their impact extends beyond academics. Whether it’s offering emotional support, connecting families with resources, or simply being a trusted mentor, school counselors are essential to student growth and success.

Bringing Learning to Life: Field Trip Experiences at Proviso West High School
At Proviso West High School, field trips are an essential part of students' education, connecting classroom lessons with real-world experiences. From museum visits to cultural events and local business tours, these outings inspire curiosity and broaden perspectives.
By exploring the world beyond school walls, students gain valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the subjects they study. At Proviso West, we believe learning should be dynamic and memorable, and field trips play a vital role in making that happen.
A huge thank you to our dedicated social workers and counselors for creating an incredible opportunity for Proviso West seniors to tour Elmhurst University!
Special thanks to Elmhurst University and President Van Aken for your warm welcome and support, showing our students what college life is all about. Your hospitality helps inspire their next steps on their journey to success!
Proviso West Choral Dept & NJROTC
"On Thursday, February 6, 2025, (for about the 6 years now,) the Proviso West Choral Dept. and NJROTC traveled to the NOW ARENA in Hoffman Estates, IL., home of the Windy City Bulls Basketball Team (the affiliate team to the Chicago Bulls).
In keeping with the day's theme "Windy City Bulls Education Day", at 9:30am, the Choir and ROTC sat in on a professional career panel session with Chicago Bulls Representatives.
The Proviso West Choir under the direction of Salina Watson their Choir Director did a fantastic job of starting off the game day by singing a live version of the National Anthem at the beginning of the game following a video version of the Black National Anthem.
During the 3rd quarter, Senior Chief Williams and the Proviso West NJROTC stepped onto the court with their panther spirit to help hype up the crowd and promote Windy City Bulls team spirit by throwing t-shirts out to the crowd!
A great fun-filled time was had by all students in attendance and once again Proviso West students had their best shimmer and shine on!
Congratulations panthers once again on a job well done! We are panther and PROVISO proud of our students and staff!"

Mrs. Salina Watson,

Chicago Auto Show
Several students from the Proviso West Drivers Ed program enjoyed a special field trip to the Chicago Auto Show. They had the opportunity to explore the latest advancements in automotive technology, discover innovative designs, and meet industry experts. This hands-on experience enhanced their understanding of vehicle safety, efficiency, and the future of driving. It was truly a unique opportunity to learn outside the classroom!
Additionally, students had opportunities to grasp the reality of the cost for a variety of gas and electric vehicles. Students even had chances to participate in some of the test drives (as passengers) with licensed drivers from each manufacturer. The students were also privileged to receive give-away items, interact with vendors from various military branches and the IL State Police.
Thank you to Mrs. Sauter, Ms. Barajas, Mrs. Norwood and Mr. Green who were all chaperones for the trip.
