Edison Newsletter!

EdisonNewsletter!

Dear Edison Family,

We are so proud of our Super Readers! This week, these outstanding students put their literacy skills and leadership on display in many special ways. They helped Chief Peacock check doors, assisted during lunch, and even helped make the morning announcements. What an incredible way to show responsibility, confidence, and achievement. We are very proud of their hard work and dedication to reading. Keep reading, boys and girls! With commitment and consistency, you too can become a Super Reader.

As a reminder, staying healthy helps us stay happy and ready to learn. Encouraging healthy eating habits at home plays an important role in student success. Please be sure to review the “Keeping Edison Healthy and Happy” flyer below for helpful tips and information on making nutritious food choices.

We will also be hosting Pre‑K and Kindergarten Round‑Up, an important opportunity for families to register for the upcoming school year. Please be sure to see the flyers for dates, times, and additional details. Upcoming Round-up dates: Monday, April 13, from 8:30-5:30 and Tuesday, April 14th, from 8:30-5:30.

We also encourage you to continue supporting our Bubble Run fundraiser, which helps fund our campus field trips. Just go to mybooster.com, and make a pledge!

Don’t forget to mark your calendar and join us for Fiesta Night on April 25—it’s sure to be a fun evening for the whole family. Student performances are from 3-6 pm. See the flyers below for more information.

⭐ Character Lesson of the Month: Courage

Courage isn’t just about big, heroic moments—it shows up in small, everyday ways for our students. Courage is raising your hand when you’re unsure, trying something new, standing up for a friend, or keeping going when something feels hard.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Recurring reminders:

Traffic Reminder 🚗

To help keep traffic flowing safely and efficiently, please turn right when exiting the school during arrival and dismissal. This small change will help reduce congestion and ensure a smoother transition for all families. Thank you for your cooperation!

Also, when crossing the street or high traffic areas, please make sure to be crossed by a crossing guard at the cross walk, thank you.

Reading and Writing at home: We do a great deal of reading and writing at school. Parents/Guardians, if you could help us out by helping your kiddos with their home work, also reading to them, and having them write something short and age appropriate (pre-k: trace some letters, Kinder: write a few short words, 1st grade: write a short sentence), would go a long way.

Homework Reminder: I want to take this opportunity to encourage all parents to support their children with their homework. Your involvement in your child's education plays a crucial role in their academic success. By working together, we can ensure that our students are reaching their full potential.

Parental Involvement: Research consistently shows that students perform better in school when their parents are actively involved in their education. I am proud to share that our school has seen a significant increase in parental engagement over the past year. Let's keep up this positive momentum as we work together to support our children's learning journey.

Summer School Update: I must inform you that there will not be summer school offered this year for attendance recovery. Therefore, it is imperative that your student attend school on time each and every day unless they are sick. If they are sick please leave a doctors note with the front office.

School policy: Parents, we will not allow early pick up of students after 3pm, including Doctors appointments, etc...

Transportation Changes: ALL Transportation changes must be made no later that 12pm. Any changes after that time cannot be made. Thank you,

Pre-K and Kindergarten Round Up!

Parents of students who will be 3, 4 or 5 years of age before September 1, 2026 are encouraged to register as soon as possible. All 4-year-old students entering Pre-K and 3 and 4-year-old students entering Head Start must meet eligibility requirements as required by Texas law.

Edison and Head Start staff will be available to answer any enrollment eligibility questions, assist with online registration, and to accept enrollment documentation. To expedite registration, families of Kindergarten students are encouraged to complete the online registration prior to the round-up, and to bring supporting documentation to complete the student’s registration. Computers will also be available for online registration if the process is not able to be completed prior to the event. If the family currently has a student in the district, please add a new student to the existing parent portal account. If a parent portal account does not yet exist, go to gainesvilleisd.org/registration and create a new account.

Documentation requirements include: parent identification, child’s social security card, birth certificate, proof of residency, immunization record, and proof of income (to determine Pre-K eligibility).

To learn more about qualifying for Pre-K or Head Start, visit our website: https://www.gainesvilleisd.org/students-families/student-registration

Character Trait of the Month: Courage!

Courage isn’t just about big, heroic moments—it shows up in small, everyday ways for our students. Courage is raising your hand when you’re unsure, trying something new, standing up for a friend, or keeping going when something feels hard.

At school, we are helping students build courage by encouraging a growth mindset, celebrating effort, and reminding them that mistakes are part of learning. When children feel safe and supported, they are more willing to take positive risks and believe in themselves.

How families can support courage at home:

  • Encourage your child to try new things, even if they feel nervous
  • Praise effort, not just outcomes
  • Share your own examples of facing challenges
  • Remind them: “You can do hard things!”

Together, we can help our students grow into confident, resilient learners who are willing to take on challenges with bravery and heart.
