6th Grade News From the desk of Mrs. J. Peters, Assistant Principal

Week of January 15, 2024 Week of January 15, 2024

Dear 6th Grade Parents and Families,

We are excited to introduce 2 new teachers that have joined our SMS Team. Veronica Molnar and Katie Must have joined the Admirals Team, and started in the new year. We are happy to have them both. In the newsletter this week, they have introduced themselves. If you have any questions regarding the classes that they are teaching, please reach out to them via email or phone.

Bundle up for the cold weather this week! Winter is finally here, I think! :)

Sincerely,

Mrs. J. Peters

Dear Admirals families,

Happy 2024, and welcome back! We hope everyone had a safe, restful, and fun Winter Break. As the new year is often the time for reflection and new starts, now would be a great time to check in with your student about what goals they have for this quarter and how they plan to achieve them!

We would also like to welcome Miss Must and Miss Molnar to the team! Miss Must will be teaching Math and Miss Molnar is our new Intervention Specialist. Both are recent graduates from the area who are so excited to be here and get to know your students!

Mrs. Peters led our quarterly Behavior Expectations assembly this week, and she shared a few reminders. First, Apple Watches and other smart watches are allowed to be worn; however, students may not use them to text during the school day. We also want to remind students that they are not permitted to carry backpacks to their classes, including 10th Period.

Finally, we have made some minor adjustments to our PRIDE Points and incentive expectations, which we shared with students this week. If you are new to the team or need a reminder as to how those work, you are welcome to review that information here. This is also posted in our Parents & Guardians Google Classroom, along with our assignments page.

Thank you all for your support this year! As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and we will get back to you within 1-2 school days. We look forward to a great quarter!

Sincerely,

The Admirals Team ️

10 Parenting Tips for Preteens and Tweens 10 Parenting Tips for Preteens and Tweens

It’s typically between the ages of nine and twelve that our cute, cuddly little children, once so willing to climb into our laps and share their secrets, suddenly want little or nothing to do with us. A child in preadolescence is not the same person they were just a year or two ago. They have changed—physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. They’re developing new independence and may even want to see how far they can push limits set by parents....

Please take some time to read the content below so that you know and understand the process of discipline at SMS. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out with questions at any time.

One focus this year has been on our behavior systems and making sure we are holding our students to the high standards that we have here at SMS. To help with that we've made some changes to our behavior system and discipline.

  • Will be served at 7:00 am and students need to report at that time to the main office

  • Saturday detentions will be held at the high school for 2 hours

Progressive Discipline for minor behaviors

  • Students can receive 3 detentions then they will be issued a Saturday Detention
  • Then students can receive 3 Saturday Detentions then they will be issued In-School Suspension
  • Then students can receive 3 In-School Suspensions before out of school suspensions will be issued
