Character Trait of the Month Character Trait of the Month

Whitehead has started working on a character trait per month in order to help our students grow in their social emotional health. This month we are working on SOCIAL AWARENESS. A huge part of social awareness is expressing your feelings appropriately through your words! Please encourage your kiddo at home to develop these characteristics as we work through them each month!

January Caregiver Update Coming Soon! January Caregiver Update Coming Soon!

Please remember with the colder weather means kiddos should come to school with their coat, hat, and mittens! If there is snow on the ground they should also bring their snow pants and boots for sledding! Please begin to teach your kiddo how to zip up their coat and put their winter gear on so they can get outside to sled and play quicker! This independence will go a long way!

Norovirus and Respiratory Illnesses (Including Influenza) Are Going Around – Please Help Keep Our School Community Healthy!

  1. Norovirus Prevention:

    • Handwashing: Wash hands with soap and water, especially after using the bathroom or before eating. Hand sanitizer does not kill norovirus, so soap and water are essential to prevent its spread.
    • Stay Home If Sick: If your child is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, they should stay home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
  2. Respiratory Illnesses (Including Influenza):

    • Coughs and Cold Symptoms: If your child has a persistent cough or other cold/flu symptoms and generally does not feel well, please keep them at home until they are feeling better.
    • Fever: If your child has a fever of 100.4°F (37.8°C) or higher, they should stay home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
    • Rash: If your child develops a rash that has not been seen by a doctor, keep them home until it’s diagnosed or treated.

General Guidelines:

  • Keep your child home if they don't feel well, especially if they have any of the symptoms mentioned above.
  • Make sure they get plenty of rest, stay hydrated, and practice good hygiene.

Thank you for helping to keep our school healthy and safe! Please reach out to our school nurse if you are unsure or if you have any questions.

Helping Students Build Healthy Relationships Helping Students Build Healthy Relationships

We are excited to introduce The Strong Foundations Program, a new initiative designed to help our students develop the skills needed to build healthy, respectful relationships.

For our K-5 students, the focus will be on emotional intelligence, communication, and mutual respect, the essential building blocks of positive relationships. By teaching these skills early, we can help children navigate friendships, resolve conflicts, and develop strong interpersonal skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

What to Expect -

  • Age-appropriate lessons that help students practice expressing emotions, setting boundaries, and respecting others.

  • Take-home materials to help parents and caregivers continue these conversations at home.

  • A commitment to fostering a culture of kindness, inclusion, and respect in every classroom.

Learning how to communicate effectively, manage emotions, and build positive relationships is just as important as academic success. When students feel safe, supported, and respected, they are more likely to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

How You Can Get Involved -

We encourage families to reinforce these lessons at home by talking with your children about friendships, emotions, and problem-solving. Be on the lookout for helpful resources in the coming weeks.

Thank you for being our partners in helping students grow into confident, kind, and respectful individuals.
