Information Specific to Grade Level
Seniors
Senior Packet is a document that you can refer to throughout the school year. The Senior Packet can be found here: Senior Packet
Important Deadlines: As you prepare for and apply to colleges/universities and trade schools, it is wise to make a list of application deadline dates. Doing so will help you to plan ahead, and submit all applications on-time. Sometimes a college will have different deadline dates, so look into that as well to see which deadline is best for you.
College Applications: You can apply to colleges and trade schools on their home websites. If you are applying to several colleges, consider creating an account on the Common App if the majority of the schools participate in the Common App. (You can search colleges/universities on the site before creating an account.) Check your college or trade school website to learn how they want you to apply.
College Application Essays: You may need to write an essay and/or obtain recommendation letters for your college and trade school applications. Make sure you give yourself enough time to write and obtain these application requirements. Also, if a recommendation is needed from a teacher/coach/administrator/counselor, it is polite to give him/her at least two weeks to complete it. It is also helpful to share an outline of your future career plans, extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and any honors or awards you have received while in high school.
Transcripts
Colleges, trade schools, and employers will ask for your high school transcript (a document that shows all classes taken and grades.) We use a website called Parchment.com to send an electronic copy of your transcript. If you have not done so already, please set-up an account so you will be ready to request transcripts once you apply to colleges, trade schools, the military, this Fall. Make sure to use a personal email address (rather than your school email) when creating your account.
Click on the “Learner or Parent” tab and fill in the information. This will get you started. From there you can request your transcripts be sent to different locations. You can watch Video instructions here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8WbAi_5VPw. To order transcripts go to https://www.parchment.com/ and create an account.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): Students applying to colleges/universities and trade schools are encouraged to complete the 2027-2028 FAFSA form to be eligible for scholarships, grants, and federal aid. Most post-secondary schools participate in federal student aid programs; however, you can check with each school to be certain. Schools often use the FAFSA information to determine eligibility for their offered scholarships and grants. Students and Families can obtain the FAFSA form beginning October 1st. Students are eligible for more opportunities if the FAFSA is completed sooner rather than later in the year. Visit https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa site for more information. Also, this is a helpful 2-minute video explaining “What Is FAFSA?”
Juniors
This is the year you will start to make decisions regarding your post-secondary plans. What are you planning to do after high school graduation: attend college or trade school or enlist in the military? This planning can be exciting as well as a little daunting at times. Updating your EDP in XELLO by taking the process seriously will be helpful in your decision making process. School counselors are here to help guide you through this process, and will be meeting with your class on Thursday, September 9, 2026. Refer to the linked Junior Packet throughout the year as questions arise.
Annual HHS Career Fair 2026 is Friday, October 16th.
