Thank You

I want to extend my thanks to all the parents who joined us for our first Principal's Coffee Chat last week. Our next session will focus on the STAR assessment and other key student data, with the date to be shared soon.

We also want to express our gratitude to the amazing parent volunteers who have helped make this week's Book Fair such a success. It's truly inspiring to see so many people come together in support of our school. Fifth Avenue is more than just a school; it's a community, and the outpouring of support we've witnessed is a wonderful reflection of that spirit.

Important Information for Gifted Review!

Each fall semester the gifted review team looks at existing student data to discuss students’ needs and determine if further evaluation for gifted identification is needed. If you are interested in having the team discuss your child’s needs, you may complete a Recommendation for Review Form and turn it in to the Gifted & Talented Specialist at your child’s school before Wednesday, October 1. No additional information is needed.

The Gifted & Talented Specialists for FAVE are Jennifer Broman-Fulks, Edwin Ellis, Stephanie Tolentino, and Charee Waugh. For more detailed information about the review process and to obtain a copy of the Recommendation for Review Form, please contact the Gifted & Talented Specialists for your school at jbroman-fulks@csdecatur.net, edellis@csdecatur.net, stolentino@csdecatur.net, or cwaugh@csdecatur.net or visit the following website: https://www.csdecatur.net/our-district-5f/departments/teaching-and-learning/gifted-and-talented-services (helpful tip: click on Gifted Services FAQs on the left of the website).

CSD Administering BASC-3 BESS in Grades 3-12

From Oct. 6-31, 2025, CSD will administer the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS), a brief screening tool for students in grades 3-12 that helps to identify social, emotional, and behavioral strengths and needs so schools can provide timely support. Screener results help schools strengthen classroom practices, offer small-group or individual support, and partner with families to connect students with resources. Together, we can ensure every child feels safe, seen and supported. Find out more in the Social, Emotional and Behavioral Screening (BASC-3 BESS) FAQ.

CSD invites parents and guardians to attend a Google Meet BASC-3 BESS parent workshop:

  • Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 6:30-7:30 p.m. Join Sept. 16 meeting here.
  • Wednesday, September 17, 2025, 1-2 p.m. Join Sept. 17 meeting here.

Families wishing to opt out must complete the opt-out form by September 19, 2025.

Walk & Roll-Thank You 🚲👟🚲👟

Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday morning's Fall into Walk & Roll! We had 197 students lace up their shoes and roll into school together. The morning was filled with smiles, high-fives from Freddie the F.AVE Falcon, and plenty of energy to start the day. Congratulations to the fifth grade who had 80 students participating in Walk & Roll. By choosing to walk, bike, or scoot, our community saved dozens of car trips and showed how fun—and healthy—it can be to get to school in active ways. We can’t wait to see even more of you at our next Walk & Roll on Wednesday, October 8!

Interested in joining the fun? We'd love your help. Email Jill at jillwandstrat@gmail.com for details.

Hispanic Heritage Tasting-Celebremos El Mes de la Herencia Latina & Hispana¡Vamos a comer!

F.Ave continues our celebration of Latino and Hispanic Heritage with the Annual FAve Flavors. This event will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2025. In honor of the many unique cultures and cuisines of Latin America and Spain, we would like to offer students a small taste of Latino & Spanish flavors. We are looking for support from F.Ave families to help make this event a big success. If you have culinary skills and an interest in sharing your favorite Latino and Spanish inspired recipes with our students - we would love for any family to participate! Feel free to pair up with a friend, too. We would recommend simple savory and sweet bites similar to dishes such as, Dominican Dulce de Leche, Puerto Rican Plantains, Peruvian Bean and Cheese Pupusas, Venezuelan Corn Arepas, Mexican Churros or Conchas, Cuban Arroz con Frijoles, Uruguayan Chajá, Agua de Fresca. Please no chips and salsa or tacos. We are excited to have our families help build FAve's tradition of celebrating our students and community ALL YEAR LONG!

Sign up to host for Porchfest, Saturday, October 11th.

Sign up to host a Pride Porch at Oakhurst Porchfest!

We are hosting Pride Porches @ Porchfest! Every year the PTA/PTO DEI committees collaborate to decorate porches @ Oakhurst Porchfest to help celebrate Atlanta Pride (which is in October) and show support for our LGBTQIA+ families. If you live in the Porchfest area, we need your porch, lawn, or driveway!

The DEI Committees will create craft kits with decorations and will drop off before Porchfest. The host house just needs to set up their activities on a folding table in the lawn, driveway, or porch. If you have a Pride flag, fly it high!

If you would like to be a host house, please sign up below and provide your address (for kit and treat drop off and as a reference for Pride @ Porchfest maps). We also need volunteers to help assemble the kits on Sunday, October 5 @ 1pm. Location TBD depending on weather.
