Additional Student Supports Additional Student Supports

In January, we learned that our school will be receiving additional literacy and numeracy support for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students through Alberta Education and Childcare. Based on our screening data and student population in Grades 1–3, we have been allocated 0.4 FTE to provide targeted intervention for students requiring additional support in literacy and numeracy. Mrs. Tighe, our Pre-K teacher, has been providing this intervention to support skill development and student success.

The Alberta government also recently announced funding for “complexity teams” to provide enhanced in-class support for diverse learning needs, including English language learning, behavioural support, and enrichment. Each team includes one teacher and two educational assistants. We are pleased to share that our school has received a complexity team. As a result, Mrs. Cuellar and Mrs. Johannesson have been reassigned to the teacher role. Mr. Robichaud has been hired to teach Music and portions of Physical Education and Wellness, and we have secured 1.5 educational assistants, Mrs. McLean and Mrs. Murray to support the team.

These additional staffing allocations strengthen our ability to provide timely, targeted, and responsive support so that all students can thrive.

French Regional Alliance and Network for Central Alberta (FRANCA)

This is a wonderful one stop for French immersion parents to access a wealth of information and resources for supporting our French immersion students.

French Immersion is a bilingual education program where students learn most of their school subjects in French. It starts early, often in kindergarten or grade one, and continues throughout their schooling. French Immersion is designed for students whose first language is not French. The goal is for students to become fluent in French while also achieving the same academic standards as students in English-only programs. It's a great way to become bilingual and gain a deeper understanding of French language and culture.
