Flipgrid + TELPAS

TELPAS speaking is still an odd concept for most of our students. You can remedy that with the implementation of a Flipgrid in your content!

How can I use this in my content???

  • Exit Tickets - Post a question. What did you learn today? etc.
  • Reflect on a lesson or unit - How did it go? What was your favorite part? The teacher can look at their responses to plan for next year.
  • Formative Assessments - check for understanding.
  • Homework help - Students can share what they found challenging or easy about the assigned homework.
  • Digital Jig-saw reading/summary

How can I use this in Math?

  • Number Talks - Students share their voice and add to the conversation
  • Weekly Math Problem - Review of current topic.
  • Student Math Challenge - Have students develop math story problems and other students solve the problem.
  • Find the Mistake - post video or picture of math problem that was solved incorrectly. Students find error and explain in the response how to solve it correctly.
  • Compare differences - between two and three-dimensional objects, multiplication and division, compare fractions and describe how 1/2 of a small object may be larger than 1/4 of a large object
  • Students explain how they solved a certain problem - show an order of operations problem and have the students verbalize how/why they solved the problem the way they did.

How can I use this in English/Language Arts?

  • Reading Response - class reads chapter/book and respond to a question about their reading.
  • Book Talks - Students share about their favorite book.
  • Students describe their favorite idiom.
  • Ask students to explain differences between fiction and non-fiction, similes and metaphors, poems and drama, etc.
  • Share published writing. Or have them read their writing to you.
  • Running Records - have students read on the Flipgrid while you work with a small group, you can access their fluency later from the recordings.

How can I use this in Science/Social Studies?

  • Compare/Contrast topics of study
  • Have students defend pros/cons of energy resource or type of government
  • Post instructional video, have students respond with thoughts/explain main idea
  • Post diagram or political cartoon, have students describe it.

How can I use this in Electives?

  • Have students practice their scales or record or piece of music they’re working on for competition/performance
  • Too many kids trying out, have them do their readings on a Flipgrid
  • Post a fitness challenge and have students share their heart rate or challenges/successes afterward.
  • Have students describe their artwork and the meaning behind the piece.

Aldine ISD Film Workshop

The Aldine ISD film workshop for this semester will take place on February 22nd, 2020, at the Bamberg building. The event will start at 8:00 am and will go until 4:00 pm (Video screening starts at 2:30). The event will conclude at 4:00 PM. Students are responsible for their transportation.

Teachers MUST attend with their team and will be compensated $25.00 per hour for the day of the workshop. For this workshop, we will be focusing on "using what the students have." The focus will be on using the tools the students have available to them. This can be a phone, a digital camera, or anything they have accessible.

The other change in this year's workshop is we will be giving the students a video "challenge" that will be announced that morning. We will provide teams with what must be in the video (a word or a phrase) and a required prop. The prop will be something common but will need to be in the video. We will inform the teams of these items on the morning of the workshop. Link to sign up
