Welcome!

This school year we've added lots of multimedia purchased with state grant funds to educate students on a large variety of topics such as: video broadcasting, engineering, graphic designing, and manufacturing/CNC with 3D Printers, poster printer/cutter, laser engraving, & T-shirt/hat/shoe heat pressing! This means learning new software such as Autodesk: Inventor Pro/Fusion, Adobe Suite including: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Adobe Express and matching our students' interests and skills to in-demand careers/jobs with an online program called Xello. These are all great opportunities for our Commodores grades 7-12 for real world exposure and experience before entering the workforce! The library is happy to host these state of the art machines to support our "Portrait of a Graduate" vision!

We also use this safe space as a classroom, study tables, counseling, testing, green room broadcasting, after school activities, professional development, and board & booster meetings.

Of course, we also have books: LOTS of books! In the high school, we have four different umbrella categories for our book collection: 1) Fiction 2) Nonfiction 3) College Credit Plus Textbooks 4) Digital.

1) FICTION

The fictional books are grouped, color coded, and labeled by genre.

Our genres consist of:

Adventure, Animal Tales, Classics, Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Historical (including Holocaust), Humor, Mystery, Mythology, Paranormal, Realistic, Romance, Sports, and Urban.

2) NONFICTION

The Dewey Decimal system is used to catalog our nonfiction books. The numbers represent a different a category.

  • 0-99 are Reference books (Almanacs/Computer Help)
  • 100s are Philosophy & Psychology (Self-Help, Inspirational)
  • 200s are Religion ( Bible, Torah, and Information about Different Religions)
  • 300s Social Sciences (Hot Topics, Laws)
  • 400s are Language (American Sign Language, Spanish, French)
  • 500s are Science (Animals, Rocks, Space, Weather)
  • 600s are Health/Body (Health, Cookbooks)
  • 700s are Arts & Recreation (Crafts, Sports, Music)
  • 800s Literature (Poetry, Plays)
  • 900s are History & Geography (921s are Biographies)

3) College Credit Plus (CCP) Textbooks

Any qualifying student can take college classes while in grades 7-12. Textbooks for these classes are also FREE! (See the guidance department for more enrollment information.)

4) SORA: Our Digital Online Library

We are extremely proud of our online library, SORA. A wide collection of ebooks and audiobooks are available for our students with an easy-to-use search engine. Every Perry student can log in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year! They simply use their student ID as their username, and their birthday (MMDD) as their password.

A Little Bit about Me

  • I have been an educator for over 25 years.
  • I'm married to my high school sweetheart and have 2 daughters studying in Chicago. We have 2 goofy dogs and an adorable bunny.
  • What I love about being a librarian is being with students, books, and technology all day long!
  • My favorite books are Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and The Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
  • My favorite genre is historical fiction with an element of detective work such as the "Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes" series by L.R. King and "Maisie Dobbs" series by Jaqueline Winspear.

I can't wait to help you create your next project or find your new favorite book!
