Growing WISer Together: A Family-School Partnership
A Note From the Desk of Mrs. D'Amico...
Dear WIS Families,
What a terrific celebration we had at WIS! Our students’ costumes were spectacular, and it was wonderful to see how proud and excited they were to share their creativity with friends and teachers. Our teacher teams truly outdid themselves, and the entire school was filled with energy, laughter, and so much fun!
As you head into the weekend, we wish all of our WIS families a safe and happy Halloween! A few quick trick-or-treating reminders:
Stay with a trusted adult or group and use well-lit streets and sidewalks.
Look both ways and cross streets carefully.
Check treats before enjoying them.
Choose costumes that allow children to see clearly and move safely.
Have fun and enjoy the magic of the evening!
We look forward to welcoming everyone back into the building next week for conferences. These brief touchpoints are such a valuable opportunity to connect and partner in support of your child.
Have a spookatacular weekend! 🎃👻
Kindly,
Jen
Just an Itty Bit of our Halloween Fun
Kid Governor
Our fifth graders recently participated in Connecticut’s Kid Governor® program, an engaging civic learning experience that encourages students to explore leadership, understand government, and make a difference in their communities. Many of our fifth graders took part in the process, learning about civic responsibility and participating in the nomination process. Through their collective efforts, students selected Aubrey Finan to represent Weston in the state competition! Connecticut’s Kid Governor program selects seven finalists from student candidates across the state, and we are incredibly proud of all our fifth graders for their participation, thoughtful engagement, and commitment to civic learning. We are especially proud of Aubrey for her strong representation of Weston!
Making the Most of Your Parent-Teacher Conference
Our upcoming conferences are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate growth, and strengthen the home-school partnership that supports student success. Even a brief 10–15-minute conversation can provide meaningful insight into your child’s learning, friendships, and overall experience at school. A little preparation can help make the most of this important touchpoint!
A few tips to prepare:
Celebrate the positives! Share what your child enjoys about school and the areas where you have noticed growth.
Think about your questions. Consider what you would like to learn about your child’s academic progress, social-emotional development, or classroom experience.
Share your perspective. Let the teacher know about any successes, challenges, or changes you have noticed at home.
Focus on partnership. Work together to identify ways to support your child’s continued growth at school and at home.
Prioritize what matters most. With limited time, focusing on one or two key questions can help ensure a meaningful conversation.
Thank you for making time for this important connection! These brief conversations help strengthen the partnership between home and school and ensure we are working together to help every WIS student learn, grow, and thrive.

Nut Allergy Protocol Reminder
Dear Families,
To help keep all students safe, we would like to remind families of our school’s peanut and tree nut allergy protocols.
Classrooms: All classrooms are peanut- and nut-free. No peanut or tree nut products or ingredients are permitted. Please check food labels carefully and ensure that any food sent to school follows our classroom guidelines
Cafeteria: Designated peanut- and nut-free tables are available and cleaned using special disinfectants and disposable cloths. Students are welcome to invite a friend purchasing a school lunch to join them at the allergy table.
Food service: Student allergies are documented in our food service system to alert cafeteria staff.
Thank you for following these protocols and helping us keep our school safe and inclusive for everyone!
Last Call for Veterans!
On Wednesday, November 11, WIS will come together for a special Veterans Day Assembly at 9:00 a.m. to honor and recognize the men and women who have served our country. We are grateful to welcome veterans from our WIS community and their families as we learn about the meaning of service, sacrifice, and gratitude.
If your child would like to invite a veteran family member or loved one to attend, please complete the Veterans Day RSVP form so we can plan accordingly.
We look forward to honoring those who have served and making this a meaningful day for our WIS community.

Calling all student artists!
The Housatonic Resources Recovery Authority (HRRA) is hosting its Annual Billboard Recycling Contest with this year’s theme: “I RECYCLE! DO YOU?” Students are invited to create artwork that inspires our community to take action, protect our environment, and practice proper recycling. Winning designs will be featured on regional billboards, giving local students a chance to see their artwork displayed for thousands to see! Official templates HERE and contest guidelines are available through this HRRA link.
All entries must be completed on the official template and returned to your teacher or school main office by Monday, November 16, 2026. Each teacher will be given official cardstock templates for their students. Let’s show our community how our school recycles right!
Students may ask their teachers for the proper flyer or click this link and print a copy of the HRRA flyer. We are looking forward to some great art!
