Celebrating Teachers of the Year
Recognizing the 24-25 DeSoto ISD Campus Top Teachers
Monique Wyatt
DeSoto Alternative Education Program
Mathematics Teacher
Twenty-four years of instructional experience have shaped Monique Wyatt into a passionate and resilient educator who currently serves as a math teacher at the DeSoto Alternative Education Program. In her first year on this campus and sixth year within DeSoto ISD, Wyatt continues to make a profound impact on students through her unwavering belief in their potential and her dedication to their success.
What Wyatt loves most about teaching is witnessing the moment a student realizes they can master a concept they once believed was beyond their grasp. That spark of confidence and pride is what drives her daily. Inspired by her own high school math teacher, Cleveland B. Jackson, she chose to follow in his footsteps and make a lasting difference in young lives.
One of her most unforgettable moments came when she helped an eighth grade student—displaced by Hurricane Katrina and facing homelessness—graduate and continue on to college. It’s the kind of impact that exemplifies her deep commitment to not just academic growth, but to nurturing the whole student.
Wyatt believes in the power of positive reinforcement and consistently uplifts her students with praise, compliments, and care. Her goal is to boost their confidence and self-worth—knowing that believing in themselves is the first step toward achievement.
Being recognized by her peers as the 2025 DeSoto Alternative Education Program Campus Teacher of the Year is more than an accolade—it’s a reminder of purpose. In her words, "Just when you think you cannot do another year, this happens, and inspires you to come again." This recognition fuels her to continue rising above challenges and showing up for her students with heart, excellence, and strength.
Monique Wyatt is a model of perseverance and inspiration, reminding us all that even in the most difficult moments, educators have the power to change lives.
