Message from Mr. Simmons

On behalf of Webster Elementary School, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2021-2022 school year. Last year was a huge challenge but also a huge success. I am so excited about the start of a new school year and can't wait to get back to our new "normal". The information in this SMORE will answer many of the questions that you may have. This is the main way that I send out information so please read the SMORES sent from Webster Elementary School.

COVID 19 Information

As of now, the MSCS district recommends facial coverings for non-vaccinated people during the school day but does not currently require faculty, staff, or students to wear facial coverings. Any student, parent, or faculty member is welcome to wear a facial covering if they choose to do so.

Please understand that we will continue to monitor CDC and ADPH guidelines and recommendations. It could be possible that the requirements of facial coverings and other COVID guidelines are reinstated.

Register Your Child in PowerSchool

Your child will not be placed in a class if you have not completed registration in PowerSchool. Please complete your child's PowerSchool registration as soon as possible for your child to be placed in a class. Please check your email for links to register your child. The last email was sent on July 20th.

If you are still unable to locate your email you can call our office for assistance.

Class List Posting

We will be posting Webster's 1st and 2nd Grade Class List on the front doors of the school Friday, July 30th at 4:00pm.

Meet the Teacher

If you would like for your child to meet their teacher prior to the start of school, there is an optional "Meet the Teacher" opportunity for 1st graders at 9:00 and 2nd graders at 10:00 on Thursday, August 5th.

Meet the Teacher will be Thursday, August 5th:

First Grade at 9:00
Second Grade at 10:00

Classroom Fees: $80

This includes ALL supplies needed. (Class T-shirt, Party money, and PTO dues for the year)

Parent Night

Webster's Parent Night will be Thursday, August 5th at 5:30 in your child's classroom. You will receive important information at this meeting, so please attend if at all possible. Please do not bring your children to this meeting.

Staggered Start

We will have a staggered start much like they do at the Kindergarten. We will have approximately 1/2 of the students come on the first two days of school. These will be full days from 7:45 - 2:30. We will be teaching students about our expectation including classroom procedures and go over all of our routines/safety.

Students with last names beginning A-L will report to school on Friday, Aug. 6th

Students with last names beginning M-Z will report to school on Monday, Aug. 9th

ALL students will report to school on Tuesday, Aug. 10th

Lunch/Breakfast

Cafeteria time is back! Students will eat breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria this year. Students eating breakfast will sit at tables with adequate spacing between seats. Students that are not eating breakfast will be spaced out in the remaining area of the cafeteria. At 7:40 the students that are not eating breakfast or that have finished eating, will be sent to their classrooms to help maintain the number of students in the cafeteria. At 7:45 the tardy bell will ring, breakfast will be over and all students will go to their classroom to start the day. All lunch/breakfast is free for the 2021-2022 school year.(ice cream and extras are not included) We do encourage parents to fill out free and reduced lunch forms if they have done so in the past or feel like they will qualify.

Morning Drop-off

Morning Drop-off/Breakfast - DO NOT DROP STUDENTS OFF IN THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING. All students will be dropped off at the north end of the building(second grade side). Students will enter the building starting at 7:15 and drop off their backpacks in the hall by their classroom and continue to the cafeteria. Students that wish to eat breakfast may do so at this time. If your child does not plan on eating breakfast it would be a good practice to drop them off around 7:40 to help us keep the number of students in the cafeteria to a minimum. We will not count students tardy until after the 7:45 bell rings.

Afternoon Dismissal

Dismissal - Student safety is our first priority during dismissal. Our process will look very similar to what you are used to. Parents vehicles will line up on both sides of the road with enough room for teachers to walk students down the middle of the road. Please have name cards visible in your vehicle so we can make sure students are safe and with correct guardians. If you do not have your name card you will be asked to pull to the front of the building to pick up your child.

Students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. each day. Students may be picked up at the following locations

1st Grade – At the south end by the Gym

2nd Grade – At the north end of the school (closest to 2nd Street)

* Again, all traffic must enter from 2nd street behind the school near the ball field.

If you have 1st and 2nd grade students, please make a decision at the first of the school year about which pickup location you will be using so there will be no confusion between students and teachers. Please let your teacher know your plan.

There will be two teachers at these locations that will direct the traffic. Please be very cautious as you load.
