Updates from Principal Bican Updates from Principal Bican

We want to wish all of our Meadowview families an enjoyable Spring Break! We hope that everyone leaving town has safe and easy travels! For those of you staying in town, don’t forget to check out the Farmington Community Education page for things to do in the area, like Open Gym or Open Swim times throughout the week. The Dakota County Libraries also have some fun activities scheduled for students over Spring Break! For other events spread throughout the Twin Cities, I like to share the Family Fun Twin Cities website. Take a look if you’re searching for activities to enjoy with the kids over break!

Parent Input Form for 2026-27 School Year

Please note that if you would like to submit a Parent Input Form for the 2026-27 school year, the deadline for turning it in is April 10th and is a hard deadline. The intent of this form is to allow parents to share information about their child's learning style, strengths, interests, needs, or any other information relevant to our planning process. If your child will not be attending Meadowview next year, you can still fill out the form and your form will be delivered to your child’s boundary school as long as the form is received by the submission deadline.

Please know that specific teacher requests cannot be honored. There are a lot of important factors that play into creating balanced class lists that must be prioritized.

Process: Parent input forms must be printed and handed into the main office by Friday, April 10th for consideration. Printed forms are required because they are used when sorting and balancing classroom sections. The ability to provide input is offered for more than 600 students, so please do not send your input via email.

Wit and Wisdom Information Wit and Wisdom Information

3rd grade students recently completed a module study on The Sea. Through reading, writing, and listening, students learned about various reasons why people explore the sea. This module also included learning about the giant squid, its anatomy and adaptations. Learners then participated in a science extension activity where they dissected a squid! This hands-on experience gave students an opportunity to see these features in a real organism, helping them better understand the concepts they studied in the classroom. This activity supported deeper learning by connecting literacy with science and encouraging careful observation, curiosity, and critical thinking. By exploring how a squid’s physical features help it live and survive in the ocean, students gain a more meaningful and memorable understanding of the topic.

Attendance Tip!

Getting to school on time is just as important as being at school. Research shows that continued tardiness leads to poor attendance. Many of the most important parts of a student's day happen within the first 15 minutes. This is often when they have a time to socialize with their peers, orient themselves for the day, take care of necessary business, and connect with their teacher before the day starts. Never underestimate the power of the first 15 minutes of school!

End of Day Routine

Please make sure your child's teacher has an accurate, up-to-date plan for your child's dismissal at the end of the day.

When changes are needed, please communicate those changes with your child's teacher prior to the start of the school day. We cannot always guarantee teachers will see emails during the work day (as it depends on the activities they have planned with the students).

For EMERGENCY CHANGES, please communicate with the teacher and call the front office no later than 2pm. Changes to end of day routines are difficult for students and teachers. If at all possible please change YOUR routine instead of your students routine.
