We are happy to entertain you this year at the After Prom Party with a mechanical bull! The company providing the bull does not allow any kind of digital waiver. In order to ride the bull, you MUST PRINT the attached waiver. The waiver must be signed by a parent (or the student if you are 18) and returned to the school by Friday, April 4th. (The same day your permission slip to attend the after prom party is due). You may either return the waiver to the main office or print/sign and email it to mere2003@yahoo.com.
You will not be permitted to ride the bull unless your printed and signed waiver is received by April 4th. Please ensure your guest receives this email as well so they can also print and sign the waiver. MRHS Engineering Students visit the Philips Research Center
The Engineering students had the opportunity to go to Philips Research Center on Thursday to celebrate and showcase their design to doctors and engineers. In December, a team consisting of Kade Stephens, Harrison Beaumont, Ava LaRocco, Joseph Ventura, and Rashil Patel won the best design for Student Solve. This was a 4-hour competition across Massachusetts, and was against other engineering students. For Philips, we had to innovate and/or create a more efficient way to use their portable Lumify Ultrasound device. With their winning design, all the engineering students were invited to their research center in Cambridge. We explored their new technologies about their ultrasound, X-ray, and monitoring devices. We then showcased and presented our ideas to a panel of doctors and engineers, followed by a panel-conducted Q&A. This experience was a blast, and we all had a great time learning about the importance and practical implications of engineering and life sciences in healthcare. We are so thankful to Philips for inviting us to this incredible opportunity. We would also like to thank Mr. Souza for engaging us in this opportunity as well as Ms. Friedman for chaperoning and helping us along with him.

Family Table Collaborative Reflections
Monomoy Regional Schools are committed to the goals set forth in our Portrait of a Graduate, (https://www.monomoy.edu/Page/5069), which encompasses much more than academic proficiency and allows opportunities for every student to achieve their fullest potential.
Some things we value as part of this comprehensive education experience are community service and citizenship, emotional intelligence, and transferable work skills. Every Thursday, students in Grade 8 and Grade 11, in groups of 10 participants, volunteer at the Family Table Collaborative (FTC) (https://familytablecollaborative.org/) Jeni Wheeler and Harry Henry co-founded this organization in March 2020 to address nutritional insecurity here on Cape Cod. Since then, the organization has been recognized for its work with numerous awards and news articles. We are delighted to partner with them for this opportunity.
Students participate in a number of volunteer activities, including facility maintenance, food sorting, food preparation and packing, and boxing deliveries. It is our intention to foster empathy and a commitment to community service while preparing students with the skills sought by all employers: dependability, communication, organization, collaboration, and problem-solving. Students are accompanied by Cheri Armstrong, Career Education Coordinator. Ms. Armstrong meets with each group of students prior to going to define and discuss nutritional insecurity and its causes and afterward to process the experience and respond to a prompt. Here are some reflections from students.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this initiative, please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Armstrong at carmstrong@monomoy.edu.
Teagan's Reflection
I went to the Family Table Collaborative to volunteer. During my time there, I noticed so many positive things that showed me why people continuously choose to volunteer. Everyone had the same goal: to help people. No matter how that was achieved it felt like a community that I am forever grateful to be a part of. It was such a pure experience, just people taking time and energy to help people less fortunate than them, giving back to the community if you will. It is an activity free to do and makes you feel good, and even gives you the chance to get to know others and to be a part of something. I learned how everyone is able to come together no matter how different or similar. That is something that you do not see every day, although it really does benefit everyone. I think before coming here I was almost in a bubble of my own world. I was not thinking of all of those that we helped today and everyone in my life who could be in positions like this. It gave me a new perspective on those around me and reminded me how rich I am in life and grew my desire to help others.
The quote “When you have more than what you need, build a longer table not a higher fence” demonstrates a great way to look at the work the Family Table Collaborative does. Here, hundreds of people who have more than what they need are willing to share their wealth and support others rather than themselves. Many others would use these resources to provide and finance for their own good, but that is not what you will see while volunteering here. You will see donations of time, effort, and resources being put towards others who need a little help getting on their feet. The world needs more people like this to hold each other up and remind others how kindness really is key. What goes around comes around and the Family Table Collaborative shows its true meaning better than anyone. -Teagan
Maddy's Reflection
I went to the Family Table Collaborative to volunteer. I noticed how everyone acted as one big family. I could hear laughing and heartfelt conversations all around me and it is truly a blessing to hear how everyone can get along so well. I learned that not everyone has it so easy. There are homeless people everywhere we go, and some people do not notice. I am guilty because I have also not even noticed all of the people struggling around me. Before this field trip I was wondering why I was missing three blocks and part of my break. Now that I went, I would miss three weeks for that experience. I have learned so much about our community.
This quote means so much to me. It means that even when you have what you need it is better to have more to give to others. It connects to the whole reason they made this community. They had all this extra food that was going to go to waste at the beginning of COVID, but instead of getting rid of it, they made meals for the less fortunate. In the end, this experience has really opened my eyes to the struggle people go through, as well as all of the good people trying to help them. - Maddy
Intern of the Week
Braden Burke
I truly enjoy my accounting internship at the Varney Group because it shows me what it’s like to work in a professional setting. The internship also allows me to work alongside professionals who offer valuable insights and mentorship. Additionally, the employees here make it so welcoming and enjoyable. They always answer my questions and provide me guidance which makes me comfortable and easy for me to learn. Overall this internship is a big stepping stone for my future career in business and college.
Joanna Ready
I have been enjoying my current internship at Broad Reach Health Care! I love being able to study and learn so many different things about being a Certified Nursing Assistant and what the job entails. I have mostly been studying for my CNA exam, which I recently passed. I am so excited to put what I have learned to use and continue my hands-on practicum. With my interest in the human body, I have loved learning about it more and how to take care of it. I am happy to continue this internship, and I know it will impact my future education!
Monomoy Hope Squad
The 2nd annual Hope Squad Summit at Cape Cod Community College brought together the Monomoy Hope Squad and 11 other Hope Squads from across Cape Cod for an inspiring day of connection, collaboration, and support. The event focused on fostering meaningful relationships, sharing innovative ideas, and working together to break down the stigma surrounding suicide and mental health challenges. Hosted by our cherished community partners, Sharing Kindness, this summit empowered students to continue their important work in raising awareness and creating positive change. The event also served as a vital preparation for the upcoming annual Suicide Awareness Walk on May 17th, reinforcing the collective commitment to mental health advocacy and support in our community.
