We are back in full swing! Students are learning routines and our building is full of wonderful learning opportunities! Our teachers are working hard to ensure that your students are getting a top notch education. We are implementing robust curriculums that focus on grade level standards. If you have not had an opportunity to connect with your child's teacher, I highly encourage it. We will open our building up for Back to School Night on September 15th. That is a great opportunity for you to learn more about our program and see what your student has been working on. For those of you who are new to Lambs Elementary, welcome! Students in grades 1-5 will no longer take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. The district has moved to using iReady Reading and Math, the platform we currently use for our adaptive digital content. Feel free to check out the iReady Family Center linked here for a wealth of information about this assessment. I have also included some basic information from this site below. Please reach out to your child’s teacher directly if you have questions as students are beginning to take the fall diagnostic now. Score reports will be shared with you during data conferences at the end of the first quarter.

What is i-Ready?

• i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year.

• i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction.

• The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.

• i-Ready Personalized Instruction provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and needs, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn.

The SIC is comprised of teachers, community members, and parents with the goal of creating a partnership to achieve results that better the education and educational environment provided by their school. At Lambs Elementary we are looking for parents to join our team and someone who is willing to be our chair member. If you are interested, please email Mrs. McCarthy at jamie_mccarthy@charleston.k12.sc.us. We meet approximately 5 times a year.
