October 2026
St. Augustine Elementary
Principal's Message:
We’ve had a truly wonderful start to the school year at St. Augustine! Our Opening School Liturgy was a beautiful celebration of our theme, “Rooted in Joy.” Each class contributed a piece of the word "JOY" to spell out the theme, and every letter was filled with the names of our students—reminding us that joy is something we all contribute to as a community.
Thank you so much for your support of our Meet the Teacher BBQ. It was heartwarming to see so many families come together to connect, share a meal, and build community. Your presence made the evening feel joyful and welcoming.
September was filled with meaningful and memorable moments. We had 38 students participate in the Cross Country Race at Rundle Park, and we couldn’t be prouder of their enthusiasm and effort. We also engaged in activities to honour Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, helping our students deepen their understanding of the history of Residential Schools through stories, teachings, and a respectful school-wide assembly.
October also brings many opportunities for celebration and reflection. Catholic Education Sunday is on October 18th, followed by Catholic Education Week, a time to celebrate the gift of faith-based learning. We are truly blessed in Alberta to have access to publicly funded Catholic education, where Jesus’ teachings are at the heart of all we do.
To celebrate our vibrant school community, we invite you to join us for our Thanksgiving Liturgy on October 9th and the Family Movie night on Friday, October 30th, sponsored by our amazing School Council. We hope to see your family there! Please check the School Council section below for more details.
As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, we want to express our deep gratitude for your children and for the partnership we share with you. It is a joy to learn and grow together.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Reminder About Morning Bells & Routines
Just a reminder to all families that supervision begins at 8:15 am each morning. Students arriving at school prior to this time will not have any supervision. We have two morning bells. The first one rings at 8:25 am and the second one is at 8:30 am. If you are dropping your child off after the 8:30 am bell, please ensure they enter through the front doors and report to the front office.
Also, please be mindful of our bus lane in front of the school. It is marked with pylons and is important to keep clear during school hours. We'd also like to remind families who have a child riding the bus, to please inform the office or busdriver if your child is not riding the bus on a particular day. This will help us know who is expected on the bus ride home. Thank you for your attention to these school routines!

**While every student who has a birthday in the month of September received a book, we were not able to get a photo of everyone.
