A Note from Mr. Hamilton, Principal

Greetings Central Families,

Happy New Year! We certainly hope you enjoyed a wonderful break. It sure was nice having your child(ren) back with us last week after two weeks off.

This is a particularly exciting stretch of the school year. With fewer interruptions and gaps in the calendar these next few months, now is the time when we really put our nose to the grindstone to support our learners in striding out as young readers, communicators, mathematicians, scientists, innovators, and problem solvers.

Over the course of the next few weeks, your child will be completing their winter assessments in the areas of Reading and Math using our FastBridge Learning systems. Information gathered will help us study growth from fall to winter, drive instructional decisions moving forward, and determine appropriate intervention strategies to employ in meeting individual needs.

As always, we want to be as targeted, strategic, and intentional as possible in building our students' skills, while making the student experience meaningful and joyous.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership!

Cordially,

Cody

1/17/22 - NO SCHOOL

1/21/22 - Last day of the First Semester

1/24/22 - First day of the Second Semester

Important Arrival Reminders

The drop-off window begins at 8:35am. Teachers typically begin bringing their students into the building at roughly 8:42am to begin their morning routine, slightly ahead of first bell and the beginning of the school day, which occurs at 8:45am. We recognize this is a tight window of time. Please consider and be aware of the following:

  • Please drop your child off closer to the 8:35 mark, if possible. This provides adequate time for lines to be formed, and for students to enter with their classmates.
  • If you are arriving late and your child's line has already entered, please use door #1 (main office)
  • Two staff members will be conducting a drop-off check at the back of the building each day to ensure students haven't been left behind a class who has already entered.
  • We are interested in securing parent volunteers for similar checks at various locations. If you are interested, please contact the office at 744-1693.

Door Schedule for Arrival and Dismissal

Door #1 - 2nd grade

Door #2 - DK & K

Door #3 - 1st grade

Door #8 - 3rd grade

Door #9 - 4th grade

IF YOU ARRIVE AFTER 8:45am, PLEASE BRING YOUR STUDENT TO THE OFFICE TO SIGN THEM IN. THANK YOU!

Winter Clothing

Please send your child prepared with the appropriate clothing to go outside for 2 recesses during the day. The only time students do not go outside is when it rains or the temperature is below zero.

Thank you!

PARENT PORTAL - Still waiting on a few parents to complete the update

If you haven't already done so, please login to your parent portal account and complete the demographic update ASAP. This is a requirement at the beginning of each school year. If you don't have a parent portal account set up yet, please do so. Once you get the account set up, you will need to complete the demographic update. This process allows you to update emergency contacts, review technology use guidelines and the handbook, and give consent for study trips for your student. If you are having troubles with username, password, or access codes, please call the office for assistance. Attached is a document with step by step instructions for completing the demographic update and linking siblings. Thank you for giving immediate attention to this matter.

A Message from the Foodservice Director

Menu Changes & Supply Chain Disruptions

I hear you and I share your frustrations regarding menu changes. Unfortunately, the changes are not due to my own decision, but rather an inability to obtain the product that is originally on the menu. We are experiencing extreme supply chain disruptions, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get the items needed to follow the menu. I notify principals of any menu changes as soon as I am aware of them; please check weekly communications from your building for the most up to date information regarding the menu.

I wish I could say it's going to get better soon, but from everything I have been hearing and everything I have been experiencing, it may even get worse before it gets better. A few manufacturers just announced that they are suspending production of entire product lines until January 2022. I appreciate your understanding as I work through these challenges. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at burrowsc@reeths-puffer.org.

Thank you!

Cell Phone Policy

Reminder from our handbook: "Cell phones and/or texting devices can be disruptive to the educational environment. Students are not permitted to carry them during the school day. When possible, parents should communicate through school staff. If these items are brought to school and are seen, they will be taken away. Items will be held by the principal for the rest of the school year or until a parent or guardian comes to school to pick them up."
