Village Seeks Input on Walking & Biking to School
Message from the Village of Glen Ellyn
The Village of Glen Ellyn is gathering feedback from families about walking and biking to school.
Your input will help improve pedestrian safety and make it easier for students and families to choose these healthy, sustainable options.
You are invited to take the survey at the following link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TGMF3K3
The deadline is Wednesday, October 8. Thank you for helping us make Glen Ellyn safer and more walkable for students.
Safety at Drop Off and Pick Up
Congestion around our landlocked schools combined with narrow streets in Glen Ellyn can be a challenge and impacts the safety of students coming to and from school. Here are a few reminders from the Glen Ellyn Police Department related to school drop off and pick up.
- Do not block the crosswalks at any time
- Obey the crossing guard’s directions
- Do not make illegal or dangerous maneuvers on the streets or in the parking lots
Thank you for your attention to this safety information.
District 41 PTA Council Scholarships
The District 41 PTA Council provides annual college scholarships to former District 41 students who now attend Glenbard West. This year, the D41 PTA Council Scholarships were awarded to Connor Gowans and Hannah Persino. Congratulations!
5th Graders Visit Hokusai Art Exhibit at COD
Forest Glen 5th grade artists visited the Hokusai art exhibition at The Cleave Carney Museum at College of Dupage. They were immersed in Japan’s iconic Shogun era through a variety of engaging, interactive exhibits spanning over 10,000 square feet. After their museum experience, they had a picnic lunch outside in the "japanese garden." Thank you to Forest Glen PTA for funding this special trip!
Makerspace Night at Lincoln
Over 120 students and their families attended Makerspace Night at Abraham Lincoln School to create, design, and explore! They completed challenges to help the Creepy Carrots escape via zipline and to extract important things from a "storm drain." They also made beaded bracelets, paper baseball hats, and community Play-Doh creations. In addition, they were invited to build structures with Rigamajigs and Legos. The Glen Ellyn Public Library also participated and brought some of their wonderful STEAM kits and workshop tools!
Is it a Cold or Seasonal Allergies?
Wellness tip from your School Nurse
Kathryn Dibadj PEL-CSN, RN
Fall is the time when respiratory viruses, like colds and the flu, start spreading. It can be hard to tell the difference between allergies and a virus because they share similar symptoms. Here are some clues to help you distinguish between the two:
Fever: Colds and other viruses often cause a fever, while allergies do not.
Body aches: Body aches and fatigue are common with colds and the flu, but not with allergies.
Thick, yellow mucus: If your child has a cold, their mucus may be thick and yellow or green. Allergy-related mucus is usually thin and clear.
If your child’s symptoms last for weeks and occur at the same time each year, it’s likely allergies. However, if symptoms are accompanied by fever or body aches, a virus might be the cause. When in doubt, it’s best to consult your child’s doctor.
Fall allergies can make kids feel miserable, but knowing what triggers them and how to manage the symptoms can make a big difference. By staying on top of pollen counts, (here’s a source) creating a clean home environment, and recognizing when to see a specialist, you can help your child breathe easier and enjoy the fall season.
