JANUARY NEWSLETTER
Dearing Eagle Parent Newsletter 2025-2026 Issued: January
Every Eagle, Every Day!
Message from the Principal
Dear Dearing Families,
Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope your winter break was restful and filled with time to recharge. I want to begin by thanking our students, families, and staff for an outstanding first semester. Our Eagles worked hard, showed growth, and truly embodied what it means to be part of the Dearing community.
As we begin the second semester, this is a fresh opportunity to refocus, set new goals, and continue building on the strong foundation we’ve already established. January is often a quieter month on the calendar, but it is one of the most important months for learning. Establishing strong routines now sets students up for success through the rest of the year.
One area where your partnership matters most is attendance. Being at school every day and arriving on time makes a significant difference in student achievement. Each instructional minute counts, and we appreciate your support in ensuring students are present, prepared, and ready to learn.
Although January doesn’t have many events, we are excited to host our STEAM Night. This event highlights creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking — skills our students work on every day in the classroom. Students will showcase their Science Fair projects.
More details will be shared soon.
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our school. We’re excited for all that the second semester will bring and look forward to a strong finish to the year.
With appreciation,
Shawn Joseph
Principal
UPDATES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
New Visitor Check-In with the Raptor Safe App
To keep our campus safe while making check-in easier, the district is introducing the Raptor Safe App! Parents and visitors can now create a secure ID, called a Raptor Passport, which allows for a faster, more convenient sign-in process at our school. This will also work at all PFISD campuses.
We’ve also added a new iPad in the office for easy check-in. Creating your Raptor Passport ensures a safe campus for all students while saving you time during visits.

This lesson will focus on building confidence, recognizing personal strengths, and understanding the value of positive self-talk.

G/T Testing
Students who were referred to the G/T program will be completing their student interviews January 12th and 13th.
Parents of 5th graders
We are excited to share that our 5th grade students will have the opportunity to visit their zoned middle school as part of our transition activities for the upcoming school year.
Permission slips will be sent home this month for your child to participate in a 5th Grade Visit to Kelly Lane Middle School on February 5th. During this visit, students will become familiar with the campus, learn about middle school expectations, 6th grade course options and gain a better understanding of what to expect as they move on to middle school.
5th Grade Parent meetings will be held on Tuesday 2/10 at 6:00pm at both KLMS and PCMS. All parents of current 5th graders are invited to attend.
If your child is feeling nervous about the new semester or could benefit from extra support, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to help every Eagle succeed!
Warmly,
Leslie Atherton

NOTES FROM THE NURSE
Dear Dearing Families,
As we begin the new year, January is a great time to reinforce healthy habits that help students stay in school and ready to learn.
🤧 Cold & Flu Season – Please keep your child home if they have a fever (100°F or higher), vomiting, diarrhea, or symptoms that interfere with learning. Students should be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
🧼 Healthy Habits – Encourage regular handwashing, plenty of rest, and staying hydrated — especially during colder months.
🧣 Cold Weather Clothing – Please be sure students bring a jacket or sweater daily, as we go outside when weather permits.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our students healthy!
Stay healthy, Eagles!
