Message from Principal Hernandez

April 2025

Dear Lido Families,

Spring is here, and April brings exciting opportunities for learning, growth, and community connection! This month, we proudly recognize Neurodiversity Awareness with our “Be Uniquely You” initiative, encouraging everyone to embrace and celebrate our differences. At Lido, we value diversity and inclusivity, and this is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the strengths and talents that make each of us special.

Our third through fifth-grade students will participate in the New York State ELA and Math Exams this month. We are confident that they will apply their learning, think critically, and do their best. Please ensure they get plenty of rest and arrive on time each day.

We are also looking forward to Spring Break, a time for students and families to relax and recharge. We hope you enjoy this well-deserved break!

A special thank you to our incredible PTA for organizing a beautiful PARP Bingo Night, the Jared Campbell assembly, and a successful Scholastic Book Fair last month. Your dedication to fostering a love of reading and bringing our community together is truly appreciated!

Wishing everyone a fantastic April filled with learning, kindness, and celebration.

Warm regards,

Dr. Ivelisse Hernandez

Lido Safe Zone Lido Safe Zone

In order to ensure the safety of all students and maintain a smooth flow of traffic, please review the following procedures:

Bus & Fire Lanes (areas with cones):

  1. Do not park in the fire or bus lane areas.

  2. Do not remove cones to park in the fire lane areas.

Handicap Spots:

  1. Handicapped parking is only for vehicles with proper stickers.

  2. Do not park in the handicap parking area without a proper sticker.

Crosswalk:

  1. Use the crosswalks for the safety of all pedestrians.

  2. Walk with the crossing guard when using Lido Blvd.

Walker Zone:

  1. All parents of walkers must meet their child(ren) at the “Walker Zone”. Parents are asked to park their cars in the parking lot when dropping off or picking up their walkers/car riders.

  2. Children will NOT be dismissed from the walker zone to the parking lot by ANY Lido staff member. This is for the safety of all students, staff and parents.

  3. If you have a child(ren) in multiple grades please pick up your youngest child first.

Bike Riders:

  1. Use the designated bike racks to park bikes.

  2. Walk your bike during arrival and dismissal times for safety.

  3. Remember to wear a helmet and follow all bike safety rules.

Drop Off Lane:

When you come to the drop off lane, be sure to let your child/children exit your car on the curb side (right side). You cannot park and leave your car in the drop off lane. Please do not double park or create two drop lanes, near the drop off lane for the safety of students and staff. If you would like to walk your child/children to school please park your car in the parking lot.

Dismissal:

As a friendly reminder, please be sure to stand in the walker zone during dismissal. Students will not be allowed to walk to the parking lot area without an adult. We also ask that students are not taken off their line without notifying their teacher first for the safety of all students.

Visiting Lido:

Whether you are visiting our school, heading to the nurses office, or need to do an early pick-up, please be sure to go to our security in our main entrances and bring photo ID.

With the safety and well-being of our school community as our top priority, we have security guards onsite to ensure that all members of our community are kept safe. It is crucial that we all follow their directions and guidance in a respectful manner. Your support and cooperation in following these procedures are greatly appreciated. Together, we can create a safe and secure environment for our students, staff, and families.

Thank you for your dedication to the safety of our school community.

I am a Masterpiece!

Mia likes many of the things other people like--going to the beach, the color blue, drawing. But she doesn't like when strangers stare at her because she looks different from them.

Down syndrome allows Mia to see and understand the world in a way that may not make sense to others. She considers it her superpower--and instead of it making her strange, she considers herself a masterpiece. As we all are.

In this sparkling picture book, Mia offers a glimpse into the life of a child with Down syndrome, helping some readers see themselves in a book and helping others understand those friends, classmates, and family members who are neurodivergent.

All My Stripes

Zane rushes home to tell his mother about problems he faced during his school day, and she reminds him that while others may only see his "autism stripe," he has stripes for honesty, caring, and much more.
