In celebration of Valentine's Day we will be having a Friendship Party on Friday, February 10th. This is when the children will exchange Valentine's Day cards. Each child will be making a Valentine's bag and the day of the party they will place a card into each classmates bag.

We have 14 children in our class. Please have your child sign the cards with only their name, leave the cards blank. This will help passing out the cards easier as well not all students are writing certain letters just yet.

Hibernation, Migration and Shadows

This week has been a busy week learning about all other type of animals that hibernate during the winter and which animals migrate south. When we had our learning discussing about migration, we all agree that most birds like the state of Florida because it is warm all the time and no snow!

Following the CT ELDS for scientific inquiry we studied why and how we have shadows. We investigating how shadows are created and when the sun moves our shadows moves! To follow up that inquiry, the students played a game where they had to roll the dice and move the groundhog shadow according to the dice.

Math Counts

Math always happens thought out the classroom but we had so much fun sorting and counting bears. While everyone was taking turns by rolling the dice to determine what color bear to pick. Each time a student took a bear out of the basket and put into the cup we used math vocabulary as in, "take away", "add to" and "the sum" (subtraction and addition) to figure out which color bear was the most or the least.

Small Group

The students worked on story sequences and letter identification.

We first reviewed the story, Going on a Bear Hunt and filled in the boxes of each seen from the story. The students had the book to reference and to create an idea how they would like to draw the picture from the story. Story sequences is a learning domain of the CT ELDS of language and literacy. The student also needed to search in a array of different letters to find the letters to match the letters within their name.

Second Step

Empathy can motivate children to respond to others in a caring way. Young children often try to comfort others by showing they care—for example, by offering a toy or saying something kind. However, children may have trouble showing care and concern in situations that are emotionally overwhelming. Unit 3 includes emotion-management skills to help further children’s ability to be caring. Children will be able to: 1. Demonstrate saying something kind in response to scenarios 2. Demonstrate helping behaviors during an activity. The learning concepts for the students are; when you feel empathy for someone, you can show them you care and you can show you care by saying something kind or doing something helpful.
