Hawkins Happenings
October 9, 2026
What a great week to be a Hawkins Husky!
Last Friday's Color Run was a huge success! It was wonderful to see so many families come together for an evening of fun, laughter, and a whole lot of COLOR! Thanks to the generosity of our families and the hard work of our PTO, we raised $61,000 for our school! A big thank you to everyone who helped make the evening so much fun.
Looking ahead, a reminder that there's no school on Monday as our teachers participate in professional learning. When we return on Tuesday, get ready for some fun as we celebrate Spirit Week with special activities throughout the week!
And don't forget, the Brighton Homecoming Parade starts next Friday at 6:00 p.m. in downtown Brighton! We hope to see lots of Hawkins Huskies out there showing their Brighton pride!
Thanks for sharing your wonderful kids with us each day. We're grateful to be part of their lives and appreciate all you do to support our school.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Run Club is off to a great start!
Hawkins Run Club: Week 3 Update!
We had beautiful weather for this week’s Run Club, and our runners continue to impress us! We celebrated 79 students completing their first 5K and 10 students completing their first 10K! We are so proud of all the miles our Huskies are putting in!
A special shout-out to Ms. Molly and Ms. Britani, who joined our 3rd and 4th graders for their laps on Thursday! The kids absolutely loved having them out there cheering them on and running alongside them.
Volunteers Needed for Week 4!
We need a few extra hands to keep Run Club running smoothly as we head into the second half of our fall season!
- Tuesday, 10/13: We need more volunteers for 2nd–4th grade, from 12:20–1:45 PM.
- Thursday, 10/15: We need additional volunteers for all grades, JK–4th.

Volunteers, if you would like to help scan laps, please download the EZ Scan 2 app on your mobile device before arriving. We’re happy to walk you through the login steps at the beginning of your time slot! No scanning experience is necessary.
A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers who showed up to help this week! Run Club wouldn’t be possible without you.
We’re looking forward to the last half of the fall season, more miles, more toe tokens, and more reasons to celebrate our amazing runners!

Lunch Times
The entire lunch period is 45 minutes. Students have about 20 minutes to eat and about 20 minutes outside, with a few minutes in between for transitions.
Our kitchen staff has done a great job getting things running smoothly and reducing wait time.
Early Student Pick-Up
We know appointments come up during the school day, and sometimes an early pick-up is unavoidable. To help us protect classroom learning time, we are asking families to let us know about planned early dismissals as early as possible.
If you know your child will need to leave early for an appointment or another non-emergency reason, please call the office in advance. Our office will prepare a pass and get it to the teacher without interrupting instruction. At the appropriate time, the teacher will give the pass to your child, and your child can report to the office to meet you.
As we get closer to dismissal, things become very busy throughout the building. For that reason, we ask that any planned early pick-ups take place before 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m., we will avoid interrupting classrooms for non-emergency, last-minute dismissal changes and ask that students follow their normal dismissal routine.
This small step helps us avoid calling into classrooms while teachers are in the middle of a lesson and keeps learning moving for everyone. It also helps us get your child ready to go when you arrive—so you can make it to those pesky dentist appointments on time!

The McKinny-Vento Act-Support for Families in Temporary Living Situations
Brighton Area Schools is part of a consortium that supports students and families experiencing temporary living situations. Assistance may include financial support for educational needs, referrals for housing and clothing, and other resources and services.
To help ensure students receive the support they need, school staff work to identify students who may be living in situations such as emergency shelters or transitional housing, motels or hotels, cars, parks or other public spaces, or shared housing due to a loss of housing or economic hardship.
The district’s homeless liaison is Starr Acromite, and each school has trained staff members available to help families access support and resources.
For additional information or assistance, please contact Starr Acromite at 810-299-4040.
