Dear Lakota Families,

As we continue through the school year, we want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful events of the past two months and share some exciting things coming up! December and January were filled with joy and connection. Our students showcased their talents during the elementary Christmas concert, spreading holiday cheer and making us all proud. A district-wide activity brought our community together as high school and elementary students collaborated to decorate festive pallet Christmas trees, demonstrating creativity and teamwork. In addition, the 4th-6th grade dance, hosted by parents at the elementary school, was a big success. The kids had a fantastic time, and we loved seeing them enjoy the evening. After a well-deserved two-week winter break, we returned refreshed and ready to dive into learning as we kicked off the third quarter.

Looking ahead, we are excited for the upcoming parent-teacher conferences on February 13. This is a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and strengthen our partnership in their education. On February 19, our students will have the chance to showcase their spelling skills during the district spelling bee at Lakota High School, and we hope you will join us in cheering them on.

We are so grateful for the opportunity to work with your children every day and deeply value the partnership we share with families in our community. Together, we are creating a positive and enriching environment for our students to learn, grow, and thrive. Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to all the exciting moments still to come!

On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, our class will be participating in Global School Play Day (GSPD.) GSPD has been promoted by Psychology Today and is being celebrated at schools around the world. You can learn more about the benefits of unstructured play by visiting the official GSPD website: www.globalschoolplayday.com. I am inviting all of our students to bring in things to play with on this very special day. Here are some examples of things your child may bring in (be sure your child’s name is clearly marked on all items):

● Non-Violent Toys (no weapons)

● Legos, blocks, cardboard boxes, etc.

● Dress-Up

● Puppets

● Stuffed Animals

● Board Games

● Puzzles

● Sports equipment

*no electronic devices*

Though our play day will be unstructured, it will still be supervised by teachers. It is my hope that this one day of play will inspire families to plan for more unstructured playtime during non-school hours.

Parent-Teacher Communication Parent-Teacher Communication

We value strong communication between home and school. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Regular updates will be shared through our class apps and newsletters, and we encourage you to stay connected.

We absolutely love seeing your children at school every day, but their health and well-being—and the health of our school community—are our top priorities.

As a friendly reminder, if your child has been sick, they must be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. This helps ensure a full recovery and prevents the spread of illnesses to others.

We kindly ask for your vigilance in monitoring any symptoms your child may experience and encourage you to keep them home if they are unwell. Together, we can keep our classrooms happy and healthy for everyone!
