Dear Teachers & Leaders,

You are invited! Just before we closed our doors & shifted to remote learning last February, we facilitated the 2020 Learning Walks. To discover why we cannot just let them go in the face of this very challenging year, read on! The purpose of Learning Walks is to identify excellent personalized learning practices, spread those practices throughout the district & further develop a common understanding of PL no matter the model: in-person, hybrid or virtual. COVID-19 has not changed these goals! Learning Walks 21 will focus on practices, strategies, and tools that have successfully engaged students in learning this year. Continue below to learn about Learning Walks 21 taking place this March throughout the SCSD!

First, let's talk to participants from the 2020 Learning Walks!

Andrea Nicolette, PSLA LMS (former Henninger Teacher) shares her experience as a host.

Saraann Williams, Henninger ELA shares her experience as a visitor last year.

We CAN still collaborate virtually! We CAN still collaborate virtually!

How:

District & Building Leaders will receive all communication to be shared with staff. They will have the opportunity to approve all learning walk hosts and visits.

SyraFuse Fellows will lead information sessions for hosts and visitors to explain the process and encourage participation. They will act as information liaisons and support interested staff members with logistics.

The PL Team will create all information session materials, generate a district-wide calendar with all available visits, relevant details, and registration links. They will support all hosts and visitors throughout the process.

Hosting Teachers will open their classroom for a virtual visit via a Teams Meeting on a self-selected date and time between March 8 - March 26, 2021. Visits can be as brief as 15 minutes or as long as an entire lesson and should focus on a practice, strategy, or tool that has successfully engaged students in learning this year. Hosts will earn one hour extension of service for completing a self-paced module in which they will be trained to create a Sign-Up Genius event to share the details of the visit and limit the number of participants. Hosts will complete this proposal form to communicate their interest. They will monitor their own registrations in Sign-Up Genius and follow up by email to provide their registered visitors with the information and links they need to successfully join the class at the designated time. Hosts will schedule, communicate, and facilitate a paid/synchronous debrief session after school hours to discuss the visit with their visitors. They will also schedule, communicate, and facilitate a paid/synchronous collaboration session approximately one month after the learning walk to allow their visitors to share their own implementations.

Visiting Teachers will receive the Learning Walk Calendar for March 8 - March 26, 2021. All SCSD staff will be able to use the details and Sign-Up Genius links to select the classrooms they would like to visit based on their own professional learning needs and interests. They will monitor their email for an invitation from the host teacher prior to the selected visit. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in the paid/synchronous debrief and collaboration sessions facilitated by hosts.

All Participants will be expected to complete a feedback survey to inform future planning. They will also be invited to participate in a paid/self-paced professional development module to continue collaborating around best practices and to demonstrate how they used what they observed during learning walks to inform and enhance their own instructional practice.

When:

March 8 - March 26, 2021

A detailed Learning Walk Calendar will be published the week of March 1, 2021.

Visit details and Sign-Up Genius links will be included in the published calendar.

Registration will be limited to the number of slots created by the hosting teachers.

Once the designated slots have been filled, registration for that visit will automatically close.

Hosting teachers will communicate via email with visit details and Teams Meeting links.

Learn More:

SyraFuse Fellows throughout the district will work with their building leadership to schedule an information session in their buildings. In addition, the PL Team will host sessions during Wednesday Choice PD on February 3 & 10, for hosts and February 24, for visitors.
