Greetings,

Despite another cold February week, and Phil predicting six more weeks of winter, nothing slowed down our Spartans.

Our annual Spelling Bee was a fierce and lively competition featuring 21 outstanding students. Staff and students also took part in a fun Quizzo promotional challenge in support of Positive Behavior. While the competition was close, somehow the staff did not come out on top!

Several of our students proudly participated in the F.A.R.E. Annual Poetry Slam, sharing their impressive writing talents with the community.

Our music department continues to shine, with students performing at regional events such as County Band at Marple Newtown High School and today’s PMEA Strings Fest competition at Radnor.

Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, March 4 and 5. Parent sign-up information and registration will open on February 18.

Stay warm this weekend!

Ryan Buterbaugh
Principal

Spelling Bee Winners! Spelling Bee Winners!

Twenty-one talented students took to the stage this week to compete in the finals of this year’s Springton Lake Spelling Bee. The exciting competition showcased an impressive array of challenging words and culminated in the crowning of both a champion and a runner-up. Eighth-grade student Eesha Singari emerged victorious, with seventh-grade student Nina Kors earning second place after an outstanding performance. Both students will proudly represent Springton Lake at the Delaware County Spelling Bee later this February. The winner of the countywide competition earns an automatic spot in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Congratulations and best of luck, ladies—we are so proud of you!

The Dance Committee is gearing up for planning this year’s dance on June 5th, and we’d love your involvement! Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, February 24 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. During this meeting, we’ll finalize the dance theme, form committees and select committee leads, and review the budget so planning can officially begin. This is a BIG undertaking and will require many volunteers. Thank you for any assistance that you can provide to make this event fun and memorable for our 8th grade students.

Parents interested in helping are encouraged to attend and complete the interest form ahead of time. Please also encourage your 8th grade student to vote for their favorite dance theme in Schoology before February 18.

To keep classrooms focused and learning uninterrupted, all wireless devices, including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, and similar devices, must be OFF and AWAY during the school day unless a teacher gives a specific academic reason to use them. Students will be reminded each morning to power down their devices.

Please let your child know that you will not be texting or calling during school hours. If a student needs to reach a parent, a staff member can provide permission. In an emergency, the main office is the best way to get in touch. More details are available in the Springton Lake Student Handbook.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, distraction-free learning environment!
