Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
March 17, 2023
Spring weather seems to come and go in March, but spring activities are underway. The grass on the fields and courses is turning green and spring competitions have begun. The high school celebrated Academic Week this week and recognized students for their consistent achievement in the classroom. We are just a week from spring break and will only have 38 school days remaining when students return. Teachers and students will be focused on finishing strong, and preparing for state assessments and end-of-the-year activities.
As a construction update, the high school construction project is down to completing the striping and finishing of the gym floor. The middle school project continues and is on schedule to be completed before school starts in the fall. Lastly, over the next month, the district will be receiving bids for the renovation of the North parking lot at the high school and the kindergarten center.
Thank you for sharing your students with us. It’s always a great day to be a Hornet!
Spring Climate & Culture Surveys
As part of our District's Strategic Plan, we will be surveying students (grades 6-12), parents/guardians, and staff to gather information to assess the climate and culture of Fulton Public Schools. These anonymous surveys will be emailed to the respective groups Monday, April 3rd and the findings will be used to support continuous improvement planning. We encourage you to take this opportunity to provide your feedback on our schools.
Students (grades 6-12) will receive 2 surveys; the School Quality Survey, and the Student Engagement Survey.
Parents/Guardians will receive the School Quality Survey.
Staff will receive 2 surveys, the School Quality Survey, and the Employee Engagement Survey.
Please look for these surveys in your email Monday, April 3rd. Also, please note that the surveys will close Monday, April 10th.
Below is a PDF print of each of the surveys for your review.

David W. White Outstanding Service In Education Award
Do you know someone that goes above and beyond for the students and/or staff of Fulton Public Schools? It's time to nominate those special people for the David W. White Outstanding Service in Education Award. The meaning behind this award is spelled out below as well as the link to the nomination form. (Please read this in its entirety.)
The Outstanding Service in Education Award was created in 1993 to honor individuals in the district who have demonstrated excellence of character, performance, leadership, and service, and have given generously of themselves on behalf of students.
For 10 years, many deserving individuals were honored. There was one individual, however, who so exemplified the qualities of outstanding service, that he received the honor twice.
Impeccable character--outstanding performance--service--and giving generously of himself every single day, exactly described David White. The Fulton School District proudly renamed this award The David W. White Outstanding Service in Education Award in his memory in 2003.
Any employee or resident of the Fulton School District is eligible to nominate or be nominated for this award. Consideration is given to accomplishments, service to youth, community involvement, and contributions to the school district. Those profiled are persons who have demonstrated outstanding performance and have contributed more than is expected, establishing them as standouts among their peers.
Nominations are due to the Fulton Public Schools District Office by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd, 2023.

Winter Weather
School Closing Information
Winter weather will be here before we know it, and Fulton Public Schools is preparing for the inevitable snow day. Officials consider many things when making decisions on inclement weather days; however, the final decision is always determined by what is best for the students. Student safety is the top priority of our school district.
Cancellation of School
As soon as the decision is made to cancel school, the district will launch the School Messenger phone messaging system to call the home and/or cell number you have provided the school upon enrollment of your child (if during the school day, an email and text message will be sent--not a phone call.) Please make sure this information is correct in our system.
The district will also notify local TV stations (KOMU - Channel 8, KRCG - Channel 13, and KMIZ - Channel 17). THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ASKS PARENTS OR GUARDIANS NOT TO CALL SCHOOLS OR TELEVISION STATIONS ABOUT THE CANCELLATION OF SCHOOL.
Our district website (fulton58.org) will be updated with early dismissal and cancellation notices as well as Facebook & Instagram - @FPSHornets.
Early Dismissal
Occasionally, school will be dismissed early due to bad weather. If an early dismissal is required, an announcement will be made that school will be dismissed a specific number of hours early from the building’s normal dismissal time. School buses will run beginning at the dismissal time announced on those days if school is canceled midday.
TEXT ALERTS - via School Messenger
Please make sure your email address and phone number are correct in your Parent Portal. In addition to providing correct contact information, FPS needs you to complete one more step so you can receive text messages. Please text Y or Yes to 67587 to Opt-in.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Snow Routes - 2022-23 School Year

Snow Routes may be needed due to significant accumulation where crews are not able to clear bus turnarounds, cul-de-sacs, and other treacherous areas.
Buses may be as much as 15 minutes early or late to any bus stop. Please dress students appropriately for the weather in preparation for longer than normal wait times.
