Principals Mid-Month Memo
March 15, 2026
Over the coming months, our school will be partnering with the Nonviolence Institute to bring lessons and activities to our school focused on nonviolence, respect, and positive ways to handle conflict.
Students, staff and teachers will learn that nonviolence is not about ignoring problemsβitβs about having the courage to address them in the right way. The program encourages students, staff and teachers to stand up for what is right, build understanding with others, and work through disagreements in respectful ways.
Throughout the program, students will explore ideas such as:
-
Solving conflicts through communication and understanding
-
Standing up against unfairness in positive ways
-
Treating others with dignity and respectβeven when we disagree
-
Choosing kindness, empathy, and community over anger or retaliation
These lessons are inspired by leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who believed that working together with courage and compassion can help create stronger communities.
Our goal is to help the SHS community build the skills needed to handle challenges, support one another, and make our school a safe and welcoming place for everyone. This work will begin this spring and continue into the 26-27 school year.
March is certainly keeping us busy! I appreciate everyone's flexibility and teamwork as we navigate a number of events, and initiatives (some outlines below). Thank you for your continued support as we move through the rest of the month.
~Ms. Ward
