School District of Westfield
A Message From the Superintendent
Understanding the 25-26 Biennial Budget Impact on our District
Dear Pioneer Nation,
As superintendent, I believe it’s important to keep our community informed about how decisions at the state level impact our local schools—particularly when those decisions affect both the educational services we provide and the local tax levy.
The recently passed state biennial budget includes several provisions that will shape our district’s financial outlook over the next two years. Click the link below for a full summary of the key changes and what they mean for the School District of Westfield.
Snapshot:
The $325 per-pupil revenue increase was already included in our financial planning. However, the increases in special education and transportation aid represent additional support for our district.
Because the revenue limit increase was not funded through equalization (state) aid, local taxpayers will bear the full cost of the per-pupil increase. As a result, the local property tax levy will rise in order to maintain current educational services.
We remain committed to responsible financial stewardship and to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students. As always, we will continue to monitor developments—especially those related to early literacy grant funding—and adjust our fiscal year 2026 and 2027 budget planning as needed.
Thank you for your continued trust and support of the School District of Westfield.
Respectfully,
Michelle Johnson
