November 2026
Dear St. Henry Elementary Parents and Guardians,
November is a wonderful time to celebrate kindness and gratitude at St. Henry Elementary! Throughout the building, our students are finding ways to show kindness, encourage one another, and recognize the people who make our school special. From everyday acts of helping a classmate to sharing kind words and celebrating the Redskin Way, we are excited to see these values come to life in our classrooms and hallways.
As we head into the season of Thanksgiving, we look forward to the fun learning experiences, activities, and moments of connection happening throughout the elementary. Thank you for helping us reinforce kindness and gratitude at home and for being such an important part of our school community. We have so much to be thankful for at St. Henry Elementary!

Office Reminders
Notifying School of Absences
We would like to remind parents of the regulations regarding student absences. If a student will be absent for all or part of a day, the parent is responsible for calling the school each day by 8:30 a.m. stating the name of the absent student and the reason for the absence. Calls can be made by dialing (419) 678-4834 anytime. You may report absences, leave a message for a staff member, etc. If parents have not called by 8:30 a.m., a call will be made from the school to the student’s home inquiring about the absence. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) in any home that do not have a telephone may provide to the principal a signed note delivered before school starts by any member of the family or a student from the neighborhood.
Tattoos
Redskin tattoos are available for purchase in the Elementary office for $.50 each. Go Redskins!
A note from Mrs. Miller
November weather can be unpredictable! We may have chilly mornings, warmer afternoons, and everything in between. Please help your child come prepared for the weather each day. As temperatures drop, students should have a coat, hat, and gloves available for outdoor recess.
As we head into the colder months, we also tend to see more illnesses making their way through the school. Please remember to keep your child home when they are not feeling well. A sick child needs time to rest and recover, and staying home also helps prevent the spread of illness to classmates and staff.
Fever: A child should remain home with a fever of 100°F or higher and may return to school after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication, such as Tylenol or Motrin.
Vomiting/Diarrhea: A child experiencing vomiting and/or diarrhea should remain home and may return to school after being symptom-free for 24 hours.
Please continue to encourage frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding sharing drinks or food.
As we head into breaks, it is also a good time to wash backpacks, coats, hats, and gloves that travel back and forth to school.
Thank you for helping us keep our students healthy, happy, and ready to learn!

Parents are encouraged to begin placing money in their child(ren)’s lunch account prior to the start of the school year. You may do so by stopping in at any of the building offices, by mail, or online through PaySchools. We encourage payment by check or credit card as this provides the best documentation for any payment. No money will be taken through the lunch line.

Payments need to be separated!
Children in grades K-4 can be paid with one check and children in grades 5-12 need to be paid with another. Please be sure to write each child’s name, PIN#, and the amount of money you wish to be placed in each child’s account.

Learning from Home
Gratitude and Kindness
At school, students can demonstrate kindness and gratitude by including others, offering help, using encouraging words, and thanking those who support them. These small actions help create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
A simple reminder for students: Look for someone to encourage, someone to help, and something to appreciate each day!
Learning at Home: Kindness Starts with Us
Families play an important role in helping children develop kindness and gratitude. Everyday conversations and simple routines provide opportunities to practice these qualities while continuing to build important academic skills.
Practice Gratitude
At dinner, bedtime, or on the ride home from school, ask your child to share one thing they appreciated that day. Encourage them to think beyond things they received and recognize people who helped, encouraged, or supported them.
Turn Gratitude into Kindness
Help your child put appreciation into action by writing a thank-you note, helping with a household task, or offering an encouraging word to someone. Talk about how these small actions can make others feel valued.
Read and Reflect
While reading together, discuss how characters treat one another. Ask questions such as, “How did this character show kindness?” or “What could the character be grateful for?” Connect the story to situations your child might experience at school or home.
Notice the Little Things
Encourage your child to recognize everyday opportunities to be kind, such as inviting someone to play, helping without being asked, sharing, or thanking someone for their effort. Remind them that kindness does not have to be a big gesture to make a difference.
Talking about kindness, noticing thoughtful actions, and modeling gratitude can help these habits grow.
Child Find
Preschool screenings (Child Find) will be held at the Grand Lake Regional Educational Service Center (previously known as the Mercer County Educational Service Center) on November 20, January 22, February 26, March 19, and April 23. If you have any concerns about your child (ages 3-5) in the areas of speech/language, pre-academics, hearing, vision, or motor development, please call the ESC at (419) 586-6628 to schedule an appointment.
