Selma Middle School – First Week Update

Dear Selma Middle School Families,

What an amazing way to kick off the 2025–2026 school year! We saw an outstanding turnout for Open House, and the excitement and energy in the building were unmatched. It is clear that our families and students are ready for a year filled with growth, success, and opportunities to Learn More, Do More, Be More!

As we move into the first week of school, we want to emphasize one of the most important keys to success: being present and on time every day.

⏰ Arrive by 7:45 AM
Even though the school day begins at 7:55 AM, we strongly encourage all students to arrive by 7:45 AM. This ensures they have time to get to class, organize their materials, and start the day focused and ready to learn. Students who arrive after 7:55 will be marked tardy.

📊 Attendance Matters
This year, we will be monitoring attendance very closely. Consistent attendance builds strong academic habits and keeps students connected with their teachers and peers. Every minute in class matters!

🚫 Early Checkouts
Please remember that students should only be signed out early for JCPS excused reasons such as medical appointments, illness, or family emergencies. Early checkouts mean students miss important instruction and disrupt their learning momentum.

🌟 Big Plans for Our Students
We have high expectations and big plans for all of our students this year. In order to reach these goals, we need them present and engaged for the entire school day, every day.

Thank you for your support and partnership. Together, we are building a culture where every student can thrive. Let’s keep the energy from Open House going strong as we launch into a successful school year!

With gratitude,

SeMS Administration

Reminder: During the first couple of weeks of school, bus drivers are still learning their routes and new students may be added. Because of this, buses could run up to 15 minutes earlier or later than the scheduled time. Please plan to allow a little extra time at your bus stop as routes settle in.
