A MESSAGE FROM MRS. PITTSER, SUPERINTENDENT
What a delightful December we have had celebrating our students and their many talents, not only from the academic arena but also from the elective experiences. This time of year brings to light the musical, artistic, creative and innovative abilities of our Panthers and we delight in them all. A true testimony to the MT staff is how they connect these opportunities with the learning process as a whole. As we conclude the calendar year of 2022, and enter a new year in 2023, we would like to say thank you for making MT a strong school community. We look forward to continuing our mission and taking great pride in a quality education that prioritizes relationships and opportunities.
PASSING OF THE BATON
Upon the retirement of Mrs. Debbie Black, the Board of Education approved employment of Mrs. Cari Wilson as the Treasurer of Miami Trace Local Schools.
Mrs. Wilson worked at Central Ohio Educational Service Center in Columbus for ten years prior to coming to Miami Trace in 2018. She completed her Treasurer License Program at Ashland University with the goal of becoming a school treasurer. We look forward to Mrs. Wilson serving in this capacity for MT in the years ahead.

Sleep Hygiene
Good sleep habits (sometimes referred to as “sleep hygiene”) can help you get a good night’s sleep.
Some habits that can improve your sleep health include:
- Be consistent. Go to bed at the same time each night and get up at the same time each morning, including on the weekends
- Make sure your bedroom is quiet, dark, relaxing, and at a comfortable temperature
- Remove electronic devices, such as TVs, computers, and smart phones, from the bedroom
- Avoid large meals and caffeine before bedtime
- Get some exercise. Being physically active during the day can help you fall asleep more easily at night.
If you have any health-related questions or concerns, contact your school clinic to speak with any of our nurses.
TRANSPORTATION JUST GOT BETTER
In an effort to keep families better informed, the Transportation Department has recently begun utilizing parent email addresses to communicate delayed transportation. Upon students' return from Winter Break, the Transportation Department will add text messaging as another means of communiaction to notify parents of a delayed bus or van.
To ensure that you receive your child's transportation updates, please make sure your phone numbers are up to date in Final Forms.
As always, if you have any questions regarding Transportation, please do not hesitate to contact the Transportation Department at 740-333-2480.
TECH RALLY SUCCESS
Miami Trace hosted its first Parent Tech Rally on December 13th. The open house was held for parents to explore various platforms utilized within the district. Students, MacKenzie Long, and Grace Green greeted guests and guided them to the five learning stations: Learning Management Systems; Communication Tools; Student Management Platforms; Device Monitoring and Assignments; and Parental Controls.
The Learning Management Systems included information on Clever and Google Classroom. Student, Lily Waddle, demonstrated how to use Google Classroom while staff members, Kathy Payton and Krissy Cooper showcased how Clever is used as a single sign-on for our students to log into all of their curricula in one place.
Staff members, Kendal Free, Andrea Garland, and Kylie Lanman demonstrated two of our district’s communication tools -- the new Miami Trace Mobile App and the Remind App.
Karey Sockman and Jennifer Coe were available to assist parents/guardians with Final Forms and EZ Pay. It is essential that the district has up-to-date email addresses and phone numbers in Final Forms as this platform is used to sync with other applications to push out notifications to parents.
Staff members, Joanna Stitt and Valerie Hawvermale demonstrated how Securly Home is used to monitor students’ online activities while at home. Jordan DeWitt and Jay Caulley were available to sign parents up for ProgressBook access so they could monitor their student’s grades and missing assignments.
The final station, Parental Controls, was showcased by computer technicians, Matt Gallimore and Josh Mullen. They demonstrated how to set parental controls on android and iOS devices students use while not at school.
Guests who visited all five stations were given the opportunity to be entered in prize drawings. Local businesses generously donated fabulous tech prizes. The Technology Department looks forward to hosting this event again next year!
