The Eagle's Press
Week of Sept 2
MISSION
Lindblom Math & Science Academy is an inclusive, challenging, and supportive community that empowers students to become compassionate leaders who understand, engage, and impact the world.
VISION
Lindblom Math & Science Academy will empower every student to excel academically, grow personally, and thrive as engaged citizens in an ever-changing world.
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Lindblom Families and Students,
The first two weeks of school have gone by so quickly! In this time, our focus has been on building a welcoming and positive school culture, setting clear expectations, making space for teachers to collaborate, strengthening community partnerships, and connecting with parents as true partners in this work. Starting strong in these areas helps us “keep the main thing the main thing” all year long.
At Lindblom, the main thing is student learning. We believe every student deserves instruction that is engaging, culturally responsive, and designed to help them grow both now and in the future. When we give our attention to the right things, like supporting students, creating meaningful opportunities, and working together as a school community, those things get stronger.
As we move forward this year, let’s keep choosing to focus on progress, growth, and the things that matter most. Together, we’ll create a school year full of learning, belonging, and success for every Eagle.
Together we rise onward & upward,
Principal Banks

Fall 2025 Teen Leadership Corps
The Teen Leadership Corps is an opportunity for students in grades 9-12 to gain leadership skills through in-person service-learning projects and then put those skills into practice by engaging their communities in product collections and by raising awareness about the need for and work of Cradles to Crayons. Our upcoming Fall session will run from September 17th through December 13th both virtually and at our Giving Factory located at 2500 W Bradley Place in Chicago.
The TLC program has three main components:
- Saturday volunteer sessions - TLC members can sign up for Saturday volunteer shifts and will volunteer to help assist Cradles to Crayons staff in running stations for Saturday volunteer shifts.
- Virtual Wednesday sessions in the late afternoon/evening. Twice a month, we meet virtually for one hour to provide leadership-related training such as a career panel, resume workshop, and public speaking session.
- Final project - each TLC member will complete a final project supporting Cradles to Crayons, which will be either hosting a collection drive or a fundraiser.

District Information
We all want mornings to feel calm, safe, and positive for students, even in the midst of the busy drop-off rush. Our morning drop-zone is about more than just improving the flow of traffic; it’s about helping students start their day in a safe and positive way.
Let's continue to work together to help ensure that your student (and others) are ready before reaching the drop-off zone. A few practical steps may be helpful for all parties involved: - Please encourage your student to gather their backpack, coat, and belongingsbefore your car pulls into the active drop-off lane. -If your student needs a hug or some encouraging words, try to take that extra moment before entering the line so they’re ready to hop out when it’s your turn. -If you ever feel like you need more time, you can always park nearby and walk your student up, so neither of you feels rushed.
Thank you again for being a supportive partner in this process. Here is a School Pickup & Dropoff Best Practices video from our partners with the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT).

BE IMPACTFUL
Attendance Matters
REMINDER: Students will begin receiving tardy slips this week. If there is a record of (5) tardies within a two week window, detention will be the consequence. Detentions will occur from 3:15 - 4:15 on Tuesday and Thursday. If a student is late to detention, it will not count as served. Failure to complete detention will prohibit engagement with school events (coaches will be made aware).
Students must ALWAYS have LMSA School ID on them, whether physical or electronic.
Students must manage their time during the passing period to ensure they make it to class on time.
Students who are tardy to class will need to visit the tardy scanners located on each floor to scan in and retrieve a tardy pass.
Students must arrive in class within three (3) minutes from the time indicated on the tardy pass.
Any student without a pass in the hallway after the initial hall sweep will be escorted to the nearest tardy station to receive a pass.
