Mary's MusingsChristmas Addition-December 2015

Merry Christmas!!

As I reflect on Jesus' birth, I think of Jesus, no longer a baby, returning one day soon as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. This brings joy to my heart but also a urgency to spread this good news to all. Our project in Haiti, has been showing Jesus' love by building relationships, meeting daily needs, and planting LOTS of trees for future sustainability.

Home for Christmas-Enjoying my family

After attending an International Agriculture Conference at ECHO in FL, I returned to Minnesota to spend the holidays with my family. Matt and Alicia purchased a house in Lakeville this summer, just a short 20 minute drive from Abby and Cody's house in Elko. Matt is working as a wine distributor, Alicia is an ICU nurse at Fairview. Abby is teaching second grade in New Prague. Cody is a product developer at Bellisio Foods.

Moringa Garden: A week's labor-transplanting 1650 seedlings

Armed with machetes in hand, my team and I cleared a weed-filled land, dug the ground and transplanted 1650 moringa seedlings. These trees will be producing leaves to be harvested, dried, and pounded into powder. This powder is high in vitamins, minerals and protein and used to combat over 300 diseases. Goals are to educate the nationals on the importance of adding moringa to their diets for improved health and then selling the powder.

Year-End Results are in/Goals exceeded expectations by 100%

My first year goal for establishing the tree project was to plant 10,000 trees. That goal was blown away by planting 20,000+

The trees on my land that were transplanted into the ground in January are 15-25' tall! The papayas are loaded with fruit, one tree bearing 21 fruits! The moringa trees have been 'topped' so they will get bushier and produce more leaves and seeds.

Testimony: I can personally attest to the fact of how much more energy I have when I add moringa to my diet.

New Well-no more carrying water from the river!!

Year in Review

I am in awe of the accomplishments that were achieved this year. Here is a sampling:

*Built cement block fence around land *Completed tree nursery

*Established group of 50 farmers *Bi-monthly farmers meetings

*Planted 20,000+trees *Hosted community awareness meetings

*Dug a well *Purchased oxen and plow

*Started producing moringa powder *Hosted two teams

*Weekly kid's bible study *Weekly women's bible study

*Daily staff devotions *Provided farmers with tools, seeds, and training

*Employed 5 Haitians *Attended ECHO conference

All of these accomplishments are possible because of your financial support, your prayers and your encouragement. I am truly blessed to be God's hands and feet in Haiti. To say it's challenging is an understatement. I remember the saying that God doesn't call the equipped. He equips the called. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 "He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it." God is faithful and will give me whatever I need to complete the task I have to do, for His glory. Thank you for walking besides me in this journey.

How can you help? Christmas Giving...25 trees for $25...100 trees for $100...500 trees for $500
