đź’ˇHIGHLIGHTS FROM THE GLEN
School-wide Bingo
This week at Maple Glen, we celebrated an exciting milestone—our very first school-wide virtual BINGO event! Students earned this PBIS reward by collecting their DOTS through consistently demonstrating our Maple Glen P.R.I.D.E. values: being Positive, Respectful, Inclusive, Dependable, and Empathetic.
It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces on screen as students joined in the fun and excitement. The energy was contagious as numbers were called and winners were announced! One of the most heartwarming moments came afterward, when students selected their prizes. Many chose class rewards over individual prizes, showing an incredible commitment to teamwork and supporting one another.
We are so proud of our students for not only earning this celebration, but for continuing to embody what it means to be a part of the Maple Glen scurry. Their dedication to lifting each other up truly made this event special. We look forward to many more celebrations of their success!
🍎 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Ms. Wengert on her recent marriage to Mr. Cuticchia last week. This is such a joyful and meaningful milestone, and we are so happy for them as they begin this exciting new chapter together.
Please join us in welcoming Mr. Cuticchia to the MG scurry. We are thrilled to have him as part of our school family. We wish the happy couple a lifetime filled with love, happiness, and many wonderful memories together!
National Schwa Day
Dear Maple Glen Families,
We are excited to share news about an upcoming celebration of reading and language!
On Tuesday, April 7th, (the first student day back from spring break) we will be celebrating National Schwa Day at Maple Glen!
All you need to remember is that children are invited to wear comfortable clothes or PJs to school on National Schwa Day, to be relaxed like the schwa sound.
If you are interested, here's some more information on National Schwa Day & the schwa sound:
*The day was created to spotlight the significance of the schwa in the English language. We will spotlight the book "The Not-So-Lazy Schwa," by Yvette Manns which teaches about the schwa in a fun, kid-friendly way. It is celebrated on April 7th since both the words April (that i sounds like /u/) and seven (the second e sounds like /i/) have schwa sounds in them.
*For more context, the schwa is a relaxed, unstressed vowel sound that we hear in words that have more than one syllable. It is represented by the É™ symbol & sounds like /i/ or /u/ in the unstressed syllable of a multisyllabic word. For example, think about the word dinosaur, we don't say din-o-saur, we say din-u-saur. That /u/ sound is the schwa sound. It helps to make words sound more relaxed and natural when speaking and is actually the most common vowel sound in the English language!
Thank you for your continued support in making our school an exciting and enriching environment for learning about reading and language!
Yours in Literacy,
Mrs. Cuticchia (Ms. Wengert) & Mrs. Bell
