VICE PRINCIPAL BRANDON KIPE'S MESSAGE VICE PRINCIPAL BRANDON KIPE'S MESSAGE

The weather has been nicer throughout the month of April and everything has dried up in the school yard, now we are hoping that there won’t be any more mud. April has been a busy month planning and preparing for the Spring concert that we had the privilege of enjoying yesterday evening, April 30th. Congratulations to all the Grade 1 & 2 students you did an amazing job. A big shout out to Melanie Friesen and Jessica Nickel for coordinating the concert and as well as everyone else that has been involved in making it happen. We have also been planning for Kindergarten Orientation which is happening today and tomorrow, May 1 & 2. We are excited to meet all our new Kinders for the 25/26 school year!

This month we had two fundraisers, the first was our chocolate almond fundraiser. We ordered more cases this year for a total of 415. What a lot of chocolate! Thank you to everyone who sold chocolates this year. This fundraiser was a success! Our other fundraiser is for supporting students in Liberia to go to school. This fundraiser ends May 8th.

We are now in field trip season and it has already begun with a variety of trips already, from Fort Whyte Centre, the zoo, to visiting a greenhouse. Keep an eye out for your child's field trips to make sure you send along what they will need for the day.

As we look at this month, we will be having the Bike Rodeo on the 21st & 22nd, please be sure to have a bike and helmet here for the day that your child will be participating.

Happy Spring Mitchell!

KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION KINDERGARTEN ORIENTATION

An email was sent out to all new Kindergarten students to welcome them to our Kindergarten Orientation May 1st and 2nd. If your child is attending Kindergarten next year, please respond to the Google Form that was sent out. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child!

LIBERIA FUNDRAISER LIBERIA FUNDRAISER

On April 24th, students at MES learned about the importance of caring for others including those around us and those across the globe. An assembly introduced the country of Liberia and some of the challenges of living there. Students were reminded of how difficult it is for some students to go to school because of a lack of funds. Later in the day, each class got to role play what it is like in Liberia to be a child at school or a child who is forced to work because they don’t have enough money for basics. Some students role played students from MES collecting money from family and friends to help a child who was working to go to school. Students learned that if you don’t get to go to school, your dreams of becoming a teacher, doctor, hockey player, etc. can not be fulfilled.

The goal for MES is to raise enough money to send 12 children from Liberia to school again next year - a total of about $6000. We can do this with everyone caring and helping! The envelopes students brought home to collect money in are due back on May 8th.

Elizabeth was one of the kids who first had to work, but then got sponsored to school in the role play. She realized how unfair it is for the kids in Liberia to have to pay to go to school.

BIKE RODEO BIKE RODEO

On Wednesday, May 21st , we will be having the Annual MES Bike Safety Rodeo for students in grades 1 and 4, and on Thursday, May 22nd, for grades 2 and 3.

This event is sponsored by Manitoba Public Insurance to help educate students about the rules of the road and how to be safe riding their bikes. All students should bring their bike and helmet to school to participate. Thank you in advance for your support to promote safe cycling habits!

**If your child normally takes the bus and WILL NOT be taking the bus home that day, please send a note or call the office BEFORE 2PM to let us know. Any bus students without a note/phone call before 2:00 pm will be sent home on the bus as per our school policy.

A waiver will be sent out later this month for students to participate. Students without a signed waiver will not be permitted to participate in the rodeo.

POKEMON CARDS ISSUE POKEMON CARDS ISSUE

We have quite a few students bringing Pokemon cards to school. We have asked the students to not trade their cards but this is continuing to happen. There have been numerous recess concerns over traded cards that our supervisors are needing to deal with. We are now asking that Pokemon cards stay at home and do not come to school.
