Saint AnselmNewsletter Week 10October 16, 2026

The end of quarter 1 and parent teacher conferences are just around the corner. The end of quarter 1 and parent teacher conferences are just around the corner.

The Principal's Perspective

I want to thank you all for an amazing first quarter of the school year. It really feels like we are off to a positive start.

Parent teacher conferences are coming up on November 5th and 6th. Our teachers will be at school for a very long day on Thursday and a full day on Friday. If anyone is willing to help donate food for the teachers for lunch on Thursday, dinner on Thursday, or lunch on Friday, that would be so appreciated. Please contact either Pat or myself if you are interested.

There have been a lot of questions regarding background checks. A background check must be done every year. Why? When a person is finger printed, there is what is call wrap back services. This means that once you have been fingerprinted, if you something is added to that background check, the entity is notified. With our background checks, there is no such service, so we need to check every year. This is why schools will be moving towards fingerprinting vs a standard background check. Thank you for your cooperation.

Gel filled squishy toys

We are 100% in support of students using school approved fidgets. Please know that Needoh squish balls or other fidgets that have gel or fluid on the inside are not permitted in school. These items burst and the chemicals get on other students. These chemicals can cause skin irritation, redness, peeling, or chemical-type burns if the toy breaks open and leaks onto the skin. Please know if a toy such as these is discovered they will be thrown away immediately as they pose a safety risk. If you have any questions on school approved fidgets, please contact Mr. Owens or Mrs. Wells.

Special Persons Day

We are so excited for this day. Special Persons Day is Monday, October 19th. Special Persons Day is a day for that special person, a grandparent, godparent, aunt, uncle, or parent to come spend time with our students. It starts with mass at 8:30. Please be to the church by 8:25 because if you are there before mass starts, then the your student can sit with you. After mass, the teachers, students and special persons will go back to class for some fun activities. The event will end at 10:15.

Veterans Day

We are trying to decide if we are going to do a special veterans mass on Monday, November 9, 2026. We would love to honor the veterans in your families. We would like to ensure that we have enough people interested in attending that we do not put any individuals on the spot. Please, if you have a veteran in your family, and they would like to attend, fill out the RSPV form so that we can determine if we will move forward with the program. https://forms.gle/9VY6KVXvrhCDNAa98 . Please RSVP by October 22nd. As of today, there are no responses to this RSVP. If there is not interest, we will not move forward with the event.

Pink Out

On Friday, October 23, Saint Anselm will be hosting a Pink-Out Day to support families affected by cancer. Students are encouraged to wear as much pink as they would like! Students may even dye their hair pink, provided the color is completely removed by Monday.

Please remember that all clothing must remain school-appropriate and follow the student uniform code guidelines for dress-down days.

The cost to participate is $2 per student, with all proceeds benefiting Hot Pink Helpers, a Michigan-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Hot Pink Helpers provides critical financial assistance to local families experiencing severe financial hardship due to cancer treatments, helping cover essential expenses such as housing, car repairs, and household bills. One hundred percent of donated funds go directly to families in need.

Thank you for joining us in supporting this wonderful cause and showing our community that we stand together with families facing cancer!

Mass

We will be celebrating mass every Monday for the rest of the year. Please join us. The church doors will be locked at 8:30 for safety reasons.

If you are picking up your student early, please make sure that you contact the office at least 30 minutes prior to pickup time. It is wonderful if you contact the teacher, but more important that you contact the office.

Just a reminder any billing for lunch or breakfast (early childhood) or for extra slices of pizza (all students) is done through the AOD food program website. https://4.files.edl.io/15b2/08/24/23/155752-5455dc5a-8fd3-4e56-a0d3-43d50b3e72e4.pdf

Councilor's Corner

If you have ever wondered about additional ways to support your child’s emotional well-being, here is a wonderful opportunity to learn more. A free workshop will be offered in November for parents and educators, providing practical strategies to help support children’s emotional well-being.

Although this workshop is not sponsored by the school, we wanted to share this valuable community resource with families who may find it helpful.

Are you missing something?

Our lost and found is continuing to grow. Please put your student's name into their school clothing so that we can get it back to the correct student. While this will help going forward, it does not help these poor lost articles of clothing who just want to go home.

Volunteers Needed

We are in need of volunteers. Here are some early ways to earn those volunteer hours. Please do not wait until the last minute to get your volunteer hours in, as life tends to get in the way during the spring.

Lunch and recess. We are in need volunteers for lunch and recess. This is from 11:30 AM to 1 PM daily. If you are interested, you can call the office or email either bowens@saintanselmschool.org or psteven@saintanselmschool.org to volunteer.

Student Clubs: If there is a club that you would like to be the coordinator of, please contact the office. The time spent on this does count towards service hours.

I have had several parents ask me if grandparents or aunts and uncles can do service hours. The key is that they need to have a background check and have taken Protecting Gods Children.

Just a reminder that all families are required to work 8 service hours during the year and 2 shifts during the festival. Any of the 8 hours not completed will be shifted to fair hours. Hours not worked by the end of the fair will result in a charge of $35 per hour not worked. Also, hours worked for concessions for sports, or grade level specific fundraisers do not count toward the 8 hours for the year as those fundraisers are designed to pay for camp or the 8th grade trip.

Background Checks and Protecting God's Children

Just a reminder that in order to work with students, or volunteer, you will need to be up to date on Protecting Gods Children and your background check.

If you are not sure where you stand with Protecting Gods Children, you can either check by logging into your Virtus account, or reach out to psteven@saintanselmschool.org.

We are required to have an up to date background check for all parents who wish to volunteer or work with children. The standard background check is done online and will cost you nothing. Please email bowens@saintanselmschool.org or psteven@saintanselmschool.org for more information.

Prayer Requests

During morning prayer, we will be praying for members of our community who are in need of spiritual support. Please email bowens@saintanselmschool.org with an prayer requests. Please share the first name only, and if you wish for details in the prayer, please add what you are comfortable sharing. We will be happy to pray for the just the names, or the name and details provided. I feel that it is important that we support each other not only with words of support and hugs, but also with prayer.
