Student Record Verification & Household Benefits Student Record Verification & Household Benefits

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Because our school participates in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), all enrolled students automatically receive free breakfast and lunch at school every day—no meal application is ever required.

However, state data matching with public assistance programs (such as SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid) helps our district qualify for critical educational resources, including Title I funding, classroom technology, advanced exam fee waivers, and eligibility for state benefits like Summer EBT. To qualify we must meet a minimum of 25% severe need requirement. In previous years we have met a 30%-59% severe need, this year we have only met 27%. With the decline in data matching it puts us at risk of not qualifying in upcoming years, we want to make sure every qualifying student in our school is accurately accounted for on state reports. You can help us ensure our state records are up to date by reviewing the quick checklist below.

How You Can Help Ensure Your Student is Counted:

  1. Verify Official Legal Information

State systems only match records if student details match state assistance files exactly. If your student’s official legal name, birth date, or home address in our school portal differs from what is listed on your state benefits account (SNAP/TANF/MO HealthNet), please contact our office so we can update our records.

  1. Connect Household Siblings / Students

If any child or teenager in your household receives SNAP or TANF, all students living at the same address qualify for state direct matching. If you have students in the household who do not share the same last name or who recently moved in, please let us know so we can link them in our system.

  1. Provide State Assistance Case Numbers

If your household receives SNAP or TANF benefits but you suspect your student might not be matched on state records, you may optionally provide your 10-digit state case number to our administration. This allows our office to run a direct manual lookup in the state database.

  1. Special Support Circumstances

If your student is currently in foster care, residing in temporary housing, or experiencing housing instability, please contact our district liaison. These designations qualify students directly for state reporting without needing income or SNAP records.

Optional Information Return Form

(If applicable, please complete and return this section to the main office, or email details directly to Mindy Wiseman (mwiseman@slaterschools.net) or Tera Allen (tallen@slaterschools.net).

  • Student Full Legal Name(s): __________________________________________________
  • Date(s) of Birth: ___________________________________________________________
  • Primary Home Address: _______________________________________________________
  • Missouri SNAP or TANF Case Number (Optional): _______________________________
  • Does another child in your home receive SNAP/TANF benefits?

[ ] Yes — Name of matched student: __________________________________________

[ ] No

If you currently do not receive state assistance but would like to apply for SNAP (Food Stamps) or MO HealthNet, you can apply directly online through the Missouri Department of Social Services at mydss.mo.gov or by calling 855-823-4908. Increasing active SNAP households directly benefits our school’s program funding.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our student records accurate and supporting our school community!

Sincerely,

Dr. Terry Lorenz

Superintendent

Student Expectations Student Expectations

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Let's revisit a few things that have gotten loose over the past few weeks:

Morning Wanderers
Before the 7:54 a.m. bell, you may go to your locker, breakfast, and your assigned first-hour classroom. Once you get where you need to be, stay there. Don’t wander or move back and forth through the hallways.

You should not be in another teacher’s classroom unless you’re there for tutoring or a sponsored meeting.

Breakfast Boundaries
HS students must finish breakfast by 8:00 a.m. After that, throw away any remaining food and any drinks without screw-on or spill-proof lids.

Bathroom Buddies
Use the restroom between classes whenever possible. If you need to leave class, ask permission and leave your phone with your teacher. Only one student may be out of the classroom at a time, so wait until that student returns before asking to leave.

If you need to see the nurse, your teacher must call first.

Mixed Company
JH and HS students need to stay in their respective areas before school, including at breakfast. Please don’t gather together in the hallways or visit each other’s classrooms.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our school day running smoothly. We expect each of you to follow these expectations and respond respectfully when staff redirect you.

Let’s make each day a good one!
Ms. Drummond and J Clem

Just a friendly reminder that squishies, fidgets, toys, stuffed animals, and other non-school-related items should be left at home.

While we understand that these items can be fun, they can become distractions and interfere with learning, classroom activities, and the safety of our school environment.

Students should only bring items to school that are needed for learning or specifically requested by a teacher.

Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms focused, safe, and ready to learn! 💜💛

26-27 Attendance Policy 26-27 Attendance Policy

User uploaded image

ATTENDANCE MEASURES
The following measures may be utilized throughout the school year: reminder letters/emails, hotline call(s) may be placed, outside agencies (law enforcement, juvenile office) may be contacted.

  1. Students whose cumulative attendance falls between 80-90% as of May 1st will be required to attend one week of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.

  2. Students whose cumulative attendance falls below 80% as of May 1st will be required to attend two weeks of summer school. Students who fail to attend will serve this time in transition at the beginning of the following school year.

ATTENDANCE POLICY GRADES 6-12

The Slater Board of Education, school administration, and teachers believe that the responsibility for students attending school lies jointly with the student, the parents, and the school. The following attendance policy is designed to maximize student attendance while allowing for the necessary absences from school throughout the year.

  1. Parents are requested to telephone the school at 660-529-2278 by 8:30 a.m. when their child will be absent from school. If no call is received by 8:30 a.m., the office secretary will attempt to make contact with parents.

  2. Doctor's notes may be submitted for documentation purposes but do not exempt students from attendance requirements or attendance calculations. This change ensures consistency and accountability in compliance with state attendance measures requiring 90% attendance from all students.

  3. Students are allowed to make up all work missed during an absence unless the absence is the result of an out-of-school suspension. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain and complete missed assignments, which are subject to individual teacher policies.

  4. Juniors may request to take 3 college visits. All seniors are allowed 2 college visits. Arrangements must be made in advance through the Counselor’s office. If arrangements are not made in advance they will not be excused.

  5. Field trips or any activity sponsored by the school are not considered absences from school. Students are responsible for informing teachers of their absences and obtaining assignments the day before the scheduled event.

  6. For credit purposes, any student that is 25 minutes or more late for a class will be considered absent from that class.

  7. Students with an attendance rate below 90% will not be allowed open lunch.

  8. Students must be in attendance for at least 4 consecutive hours of that school day to participate in or attend any school sponsored event.

  9. Students must be in attendance for at least 4 consecutive hours on Friday to participate in or attend any school sponsored weekend activities.
